IBM creates feline brain

A computer with the power of a human brain is not yet near. But this week researchers from IBM Corp. are reporting that they've simulated a cat's cerebral cortex, the thinking part of the brain, using a massive supercomputer. The computer has 147,456 processors (most modern PCs have just one or two processors) and 144 terabytes of main memory - 100,000 times as much as your computer has.
They should have created a K9 brain, at least it would be guaranteed to be loyal. How long until the computer rejects IBM and wanders off to Sun or Intel?

it takes such a huge setup just to do a 100 times slower cat brain....

Done even want to know what type of hardware they would need for the human brain....

Assuming he is counted as human, give me ten minutes with a toilet plunger, jar of marmite and a toaster, and I'll have a device that can emulate Malema's brain :D

At the speed of tech advancement, in 5 years they will be there (human brain).

This bothers me:
Yet Olds cautioned that simulating the human brain is "such a complex problem that we may not be able to get to an answer, even with supercomputing."
If he really said that, and was not misquoted, then I lose all respect for him - everything is possible given the time.

anything is possible but not everything is probable. i'm guessing we won't achieve world peace or an end to hunger any time soon ;)
