IBM Patents Bullet Dodging Bionic Body Armor

IBM has filed a patent for "Bionic body armor" that could allow its wearer to actually dodge bullets.

According to the patent filing, the armor utilizes "a plurality of position sensors and a plurality of attitude sensors" to detect and monitor projectiles and calculate their paths. If a projectile is bound to hit the armor wearer, the armor administers a small shock to the appropriate muscles needed to move him away from its way.

The patent filing explains that " When a marksman (such as a sniper) is attempting to fire a projectile from a firearm, the marksman typically prefers to be as far away from the target as possible, thus giving him or her a head start for the escape after the firing. As an example, the longest reported sniper hit was from a distance of about 2500 meters, resulting in a time of flight of about 4 seconds for the projectile/bullet. Had the target been aware of the inbound projectile, avoiding it by simply walking away would have been possible."

Wow, that's nothing short of awesome.

Sci-fi movies come one step closer to reality.

...lol... can you imagine if there is more than one person shooting at you?? Is this thing going to shock the k@k outta you to get you out the way?? I might just want the bullet then :)
