IBM wants to dethrone BCX

The South African arm of New York-listed information technology (IT) company IBM has its sights set on taking the biggest slice of the SA IT services pie, a position held by Telkom takeover target Business Connexion (BCX).

IBM SA’s director of global technology services, Mteto Nyati, says that IBM will occupy the top spot “within the next two years”.

Considering that Telkom has bought BCX it will be interesting to see how they handle going against a world leading powerhouse who make most of their money in the cut throat US IT market where there is more competition than anywhere else.

Slightly O/T: Any word yet on whether lots of staff are laving BCX after the takeover?

IBM really and truly is one of the best technology companies to work for, the corporate culture and access to technology and education are second to none.

It's a learning organisation where all the tools and resources you need in order to grow your career are available to you. Your career @ IBM depends on what you make of it! To all the new IBMers, welcome to Big Blue :)

I worked for IBM for over 7 years and I am glad I left. I was part of an IBM staff take-over when IBM LOST a lucrative and profitable contract due to their "secretive" way of operating.

The company I now work for (IBM's 'biggest' compititor) have better salary packages, better benifits and the culture within is a lot more personal and friendlier than IBM could ever be.

Good luck to the guys from Safmarine. As long as you are not based at the IBM park, you are in the dark about everything at IBM.

Why would they want to leave BCX? Sure, becoming part of the monopoly isn't ideal but the doors of oppertunity, especially for Network Engineers and Technical Engineers, are too good to miss! Heck I wish I was still in the technical field!

Unfortunately the IBM offices here in Cape Town is too small so we are staying where we are ... at least for the foreseeable future.

only if u are of a certain skin colour

You're correct there. They are waiting for approval from the competition commission. It probably shouold read "Considering Telkom are hoping to buy BCX".
