iBook G4 sluggish after tiger upgrade

Runs slow although it shouldn't. Can't figure out the reason for it.

Am considering downgrading it to panther since typing emails on it has become painful.

Anyone have any ideas of how to speed it up?

Did you do a clean install, archive and install or the default, upgrade installation?

default upgrade install. And I don't have the disks in SA to do a clean install either.

But others have said it shouldn't really make a difference, in theory...

From what I've read It can make a big difference. You dont have the leopard disk?

Can you swing an archive and install?

EDIT - what are the specs for the iBook?

I've just upgraded all my macs to leopard. A G4 PowerBook gave issues, and needed a clean install. If you are in CPT I can help you out with Tiger and Leopard disks.

I'm dated here and talking upgrading from panther to tiger. did basic upgrade while visiting brother, so he has the disk not me (many kilometers to retrieve disk).

iBook is an old 800mhz G4 w/ 640mb ram. Google search says the specs should be fine for tiger, so not sure why it is so slow.

*Before anyone mentions how old the trusty stead is, let me just say I was in the Apple store ready to purchase a new Macbook when I decided I would give it another 6 months or so for leopard to work its way through and another upgrade, etc. etc. etc.

I think you need to get the disks.

Considering they just announced a speed bump (today) there's not much point waiting imo.

Yeah probably should, but I only upgrade every few years, so am holding out until I am back in the states early next year again. Plus curious about these thin macbooks and maybe a new iMac...
