Hi there all,
I have been using iBurst for a little over two months now. Mostly it has been a pleasent experience, with a couple of "teething" problems I am sure.
My biggest problem with WBS is their client support. The people I speak to on the phone have no idea what they are talking about, and once when on hold, I was put through to someone else on hold. wtf?:>
However, in this last weekend, I came very close to getting rid of the service. I was running the pcmcia card. My iBurst signal before this weekend at my house (primary point of use), was always 100% (though I never got near the speeds promised ... Speed tests told me that I was at ISDN speed). However, this weekend, my signal was fluctuating more than an african democracy.
It would sit at 100% for 4 min, then shoot all the way down to 0%. When I was connected, the packet loss made any internet service impossible.
I phoned the help desk, and asked them if there was a problem with my local tower. There was not. So, why was the signal fluctuating so much? Why after almost 2 months service would it go all gaga (if there is nothing wrong with my tower).
I dont mind there been the (very) occasional problem with my service. After telkom, I kind of expect it. However, dont give me a stupid exscuse.
When theres a problem, its simple:
1) Explain to me what the problem is
2) Give me a realistic ETA until services are restored. DONT LIE TO ME!
However, that said. After discussions with the WBS support people, and speaking to a couple of people online. I have switched my pcmcia card for the modem. Speed tests that used to tell me I was connected at only 128kbs, now say I am connected at 800kbs.
For the first time since getting the service I am experiencing true broad band, and I am really happy with the current setup (If it stays this way)
My next couple of questions are:
1) Are iBurst blocking P2P connections? While I support this while there is no cap, it is completely unacceptable when there is a cap.
2) When is the cap going to be innitiated?
3) When will we be getting pop services?
Looking forward to seen the responses.
