Hi

Has anybody played Bf2 using iBurst.How laggy would it on a Capped vs Uncapped connection

I meant whats the difference in lag when you gone over the cap vs when u still got bandwidth remaining
 
Can you actually play BF when throttled (over your cap)? I can't believe that's possible. It's a demanding game and I doubt a perfect 64k throttled Iburst connection could handle it.
I know from playing the demo version you get kicked a lot if your ping goes way off (connection to international servers)
If you get throttled on Iburst, I bet it wont work too well with a game like that or any shooter like FEAR or COD2.

Check the game box, i'm sure it will say the minimum internet connection, its probably dual ISDN 128k
 
ok, I play bf2 on my iburst (a lot). the game runs fine, not less or more laggy than on dsl sometimes. but do expect some packet loss now and then, but it is not a biggie.

My signal strength varies between 60% and 100% and my ping varies ingame between 60 and 80 on BF2142 and 70 and 90 on BF2.

Do you get those results when your throttled?
 
andy, I haven't the faintest idea what you mean by throttled(over your cap)?!?! But if it's any help, I got the G3 package. 3GB cap. Else, explain throttled...lol...

Throttled means over your cap.
So you've gone form your sweet 1meg connection to the 64k service. It will happen when you go over your 3GB limit.

oh, wait a sec. are you saying how does it play once you've reached your 3gb cap? afterwards you mean...in that case, don't know...yet! I see I don't read well...sorry guys...

You are right on the money!
He needs to know what happens to the gaming experience once you go over your cap. When you go over the cap your line speed is reduced to 64k.

My point is if you go over your cap BF will be unplayable. I'd like to know what you find out when you do go over your cap

Can someone tell me where i can find (if any) the local servers for games like BF2 and COD and how exactly u go about connecting to these servers. My online gaming experience amounts to trying the BF2142 demo online game once but kept on getting kicked for high ping times. Otherwise i've never tried online gaming before so if someone can give me the low down quickly that would be super :D

Local game servers can be found here

Get the IP address for servers of the games you want from here, and then plug them into your game's multiplayer section and connect.
Or download Xfire to save the server IPs as favorites on your desktop. Xfire will load up the game automatically when you click on a server you want to play on.

Played on the SAIX Bfs servers while been capped at 64Kbps , and there was hardly any lag.The server had about 41 players on the map.Pings of between 60 - 70.
 
Being capped on iBurst DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR PING WHATSOEVER. Throttled adjusts merely the amount of data transferable in the short period of time NOT the time itself.

You silly willies.
 
Yes, but the question is if 64kb/s is enough to allow a game of BF2. It's a bandwidth intense FPS, so it might actually need a higher throughput than that...
 
Aye aye, I understand that and agree it might be a problem.....just saw alot of people bitching about throttled pings and I find that so ridiculous time and time again.

Lotsa misconceptions about iBurst abound me thinks.
