iBurst and Battlefield 2

Just another quick Q... Would running your iburst through a wireless router have any significant effect on your ping?

Yea .. about 1 - 2 ms's added to your LAG time and occasional packet loss when there's lightning flashing around or a microwave cooking.

i.e. It should not have significant effect unless your wireless network is rubbish or bad or being interfered with.

Aye aye, I understand that and agree it might be a problem.....just saw alot of people bitching about throttled pings and I find that so ridiculous time and time again.

Lotsa misconceptions about iBurst abound me thinks.

Ja, I see it a lot too :o

About the wireless router. No, like stoke said. Generally just 1ms extra, and thats nothing really.

But I do have a wireless PCI adapter and whenever I use that on a PC to connect to my wireless router, that PC lags (in online games). Another PC on at the same time with my USB adapter is fine, so some adapters might have a problem :/ Just make sure the signal is high enough and it should be fine.

I do have a wireless PCI adapter

About that PCI adapter. You reckon its better going with the same make as the router or the pc's motherboard? Or basically no difference in the end? I dont want to pay more than about R300 anyway.

Maybe the same make as your router, but the board probably wont matter. I am using a Asus PCI adapter on my Asus board in any case, and that combo has problems for some reason.

If your router brand has more expensive adapters than others, then its probably not worth it. My router works great with my generic cheap-as-they-come USB adapter.

OK, some feedback. iBurst threw the choke chain round me neck with me sitting on 3.12GB (3GB package). So in answering the question on TRYING to play when being throttled = BF2 and BF2142 is unplayable. Ping still around 60 - 80, but unless teleporting while walking has become a new feature in both these, forget about playing after reaching your cap. The normal loading time of a map for a start is about 10x longer. My normal downloads have even gone down from around 100kb/s to 2.2, yes, even worse than dial-up. ADSL FTW! iBurst FTL. What happened to the cumulative cap? I recall on ADSL I could sometimes go up to 6GB without being throttled.

In general, once Telkom can put my lines in, I am going back to ADSL and a netgear wireless router, iBurst modem and external antenna will be up to the highest bidder. I could go weeks without a disconnect, at iBurst I am lucky if I stay on one whole day - this is with an external antenna and an avg of 70 - 100% signal. Way to go boys, good luck for the future. iBurst sounds wonderful and all, but with the amount of trouble I've had with randomly just disconnecting with a 80% signal and many more other probs, I would only suggest using iBurst unless you REALLY cannot get ANY other service. I find their call centre very friendly but amazingly incompetent, uninformed and unadvanced.

Anyway, sorry, I am unhappy and unimpressed cause I can't feed my addiction, maybe I'll feel better when my cap resets - but then the other probs will kick in again.

You can tell you're a gamer :p

That happens only on Telkom ISP ADSL accounts, because they have the huge majority of the ADSL user base and mostly the more ignorant people just sign up with Telkom as their ISP. This leaves them with a lot of people not using up their 3/2Gigs so they let everyone else share those extras.

It's probably just FunGuye's connection to the base station.

No idea what my stats are as UTTracestar doesn't work for me but I'm just using the modem with NO ANTENNA against the window and generally I get 1 disconnection A WEEK if even. Capped speeds run at the full 8-9kbs too.

You're not trying to download AAAAAND play at the same time are you? Cause that obviously would give you mcproblems.

funguye you getter a better ping with IBurst than i get with DSL :0

mmm, ouch brawler, I tried today again, and could play bf2 for a while until PB kicked me for reason " critical packet loss" or sumthing like that. :( :(

meh...

Can someone plz tell me how much dataz(cap) BF uses per day on avg?

Lets say bout 3 maps per night? Reason im asking, I wanna figure out if its gonna be possible to to play every night on a 1 gig per month cap.

ty :P
