I was thinking about my cap this morning, and how I manage to use all 5gig in 10 days... just about every month.

Yes sure, facebook eats bandwidth, mail bla bla bla. But why do I have to pay for damn updates for windows and AV's etc. Nothing sits on local servers, not like it matters with iBurst. And some of those MS updates chow up a lot of my cap.

I mean what are the choices, get your PC invaded by the crap on the net, slow down to the pace of drunk snail who thinks reverse is 6th gear? BSOD and die. Nope we have to update, and we are paying out of the nose for it. Each time there is a new driver update for a graphics card, and if you game you make damn sure you keep that up to date, thats minimum 50mb. Multiply all these updates by 3 PC's - which don't have the same graphics cards or operating systems ... damn it!

I'm tired for paying R600 a month just to keep my system up to date and virus free. I want it FREE!!!

The only regular updates I get are for windows defender, which are often but not that big. I don't find that windows update takes up that much bandwidth. I have 10gig account and stream internet radio most days and that still does not drain my cap that much.

Ubuntu Linux?

I watched my brother run ubuntu for a year, and noticed how often he would have to search online to get something or the other to run a MS file, app whatever it might have been. No thanx.... not mainstream enough!

Plus probably eat my cap away trying to learn it myself!

I stopped my updates on XP for about 6 months, turned them on again and there were over 500mb worth of "essential" updates. Nowdays I'll just check manually and do my research on what is actually essential! Stuff automatic updates!:D

Hehe or Europe...I see your point, :) but then you can just as well insist you want FREE INTERNET??

Well, i'm not trying to be ureasonable. MS has .co.za for msn (not sure if the server is here in SA or not), so why can't the redirect updates to local server only? iBurst does not have different rates for local and international bandwidth, but many ISP's do. Local is cheap, local is lekka!

I wish iBurst didn't cap local internet, lol, I wish they didn't cap at all! As soon as I can, I'm moving over to Neotel. They offer 15GB for the price of iBurst's measly 3GB cap.

I know this is an old thread, but rather use this one than to start a new one, I said to myself. :)

Has anything changed in this regard, as I had to format my 2nd rig yesterday and am running Win7 on it and it's already got a huge amount of updates :( and I am running a SSD in my pc, so formatting will get more
frequent for me. I know I should just set up a WSUS server, but I don't have a spare pc or the space for it.

I would also love it if you could get like "incremental" updates like a service pack and then I could download that at work :D

I'm not sure if this is true but I've heard that you can run windows update with local cap now. Also I read somewhere that iburst will soon launch a service for updates where you will pay a set amount each month and then your updates wont eat your cap.

LOL ... @ Sharkbait (I see u on COD MW2 dont I?)

Problem solved!

1) 2 X R590 p/m for 8 gig capped iBurst = CANCELLED
2) 1 X 512kbs ADSL line at office installed with R799p/m uncapped 512 Screamer ADSL
3) 1 X 384kbs ADSL line at home installed with R399p/m uncapped 384 Screamer ADSL
4) Average overall gigs/pm = 70 to about 100 (depends on whats out !!)

Original cost was R1190p/m now I pay about R1500 for all. R300 more = neva worry about caps ever again! Bonus for me, I only have to pay for my line rental at home (R152), work pays for the ISP!

The only available true local bandwidth is via JINX. Not everyone peers at JINX, and some who peer at JINX don't peer with everyone. This results in there being no cost differential between local and international bandwidth.

Now that everyone who can't afford the 64kbs service anymore is hard capped, I'm pretty sure **** is going to hit the fan within the next few days when people start running out of cap.

Damn I hope a steam game update comes out soon ^^. That will send the people into a frenzy :D

I only have one steam game and I am not going to be using steam for about a month due to exams/iburst hard cap. But the guys that have tons of steam games, they are the ones that are going to be feeling some pain is what I think.

What's your name on CODMW2?

I can't get ADSL where I stay and I did have the Screamer Wimax last year (got a great service from them), but latencies was so bad (or my problem that they couldn't fix) for online play, that I canceled and got Iburst, which is a bit better, but still sux!

True, I've been browsing the Screamer forums and those guys have major issues too.

@diegoa, are you with Screamer or iBurst, or both?
