Iburst and Windows 7 *problem* *update 25/02*

So I took the plunge and upgraded my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Now my once stable I-burst connection has become quite erratic. Http downloads never complete, and for even the browsing seems a little sluggish.

I am already throttled, but that never mattered. I could download 300mb files with no drops in connection. Yet last night, I couldnt even download a 10mb file without a timeout.

I have tried using Dr TCP to change the MTU setting to 1352 and 1392 and its the same.

Any help or advice? :o

I used to have that problem, but i started using internet download manager and since then i've had no files stopping before completion. Perhaps try something like that, if anything a download managers serves you well in many other ways to.

ambroseg1,
Feedback from advanced support is they have an MTU document for Windows 7. Please PM your email address and I'll forward it to you.

What is in this document? Maybe you can put it up on the forum and maybe get it pinned. Just a though :D

it is a .pdf file. Can someone maybe assist me with posting/attaching this document?

anyway just an update.......

I did as the document instructed and encountered a few interesting issues

1. they say I must set the speed to 1392, and the speed is still crap. downloading 2-4kbps (throttled). Not sure of what the unthrottled speed will be.
2. I then set it to 1352 and got the same result as 1. ^
3. I realized that the procedure as described in the document for changing MTU setting is useless for 2 reasons
3.1. the setting dont help. Speed stays crap.
3.2. the setting can be changed in DRTCP as I originally did. It does store the MTU correctly
despite what the IBurst techies say

I have also realized that my computer freezes periodically and I have concluded that it is Windows 7 that is at fault. Still trying to sort out this issue by trying the 20000 possible fixes I found on various forums on the net (I am on number 8  )

I have no idea where to from here.

Another interesting thing I encountered was that the crap speeds were only encountered when downloading with IE8 (and google chrome, before I uninstalled it). Surfing however is quite fast (usual speed). Also when downloading with my download manager (Jdownloader) I get 6kbps constant (which is down from my usual 7kbps).

Well i'm using the iburst desktop modem via a linksys wifi router and on Win 7 64bit and have not had any freezing issues. When using IDM i get download speeds 100kbps average, no matter what i'm downloading.
Perhaps try using a router in between and see if that helps. Also are you using it via usb or ethernet. In my opinion, use the ethernet connection as it poses less driver issues.

think the freezing problem issorted. I think it was the AVG 9 antivirus. I am using the ethernet. I have my Laptop and PC connected to an 8port switch.
