I can't be bothered to click the link, but my question is did anybody manage to connect to claim it?

Yes they did give away bandwidth, this was last year. To qualify you had to log in via that piece of crap software (or spyware) of theirs known as the dashboard, x number of times.

Many people including myself chose to rather let them shove it...

The bandwidth they gave away was equal to what the "spyware" utilised once installed on your system - This was the only way to encourage users to install the crappy reporting software.
