iBurst broadband is useless??? Please advise

I have had the iBurst 1mbps modem for the last 3 months. I have a huge inconsistency with my service. For moments its nice and useable, but in an instant the signal goes from green to orange or yellow and I can't load a website or retrieve email. This changes every few minutes, and I don't have any consistency no matter where I place my modem.

I am running 10.7 OS X Lion - is there any way I can download the latest firmware for my device? Also is it worthwhile to invest in an antennae? Is either better?

What's your signal strength on the WebUI? Have u done the basics? Ensure there's minimal walls blocking it. Moved the modem around trying windows closet to the towers?

The external antenna makes a huge difference.
