Well, it's almost the end of the road for me as my contact expires in about 2 weeks. :D:D:D

Quick question here for those who have canceled before. When should I notify them about cancellation, before the expiry date, or after? Will they still bill me for September if my contract expires 13 August and I notify them about it now?

:)

Send letters and make sure you get names, dates, times, everything. Document everything.
You cannot reverse Iburst debit orders as they use some kind of system that the banks cannot reverse. Good luck

If memory serves me right - you need to give one calendar month

I gather if it expires on 13-08-2008 you can send them an email now and they will need to reply you with a cancellation form including a ref number which you will need to laminate and have it next to your PC.

Fill in the form and fax it back to them, make sure they acknowledge that they have received it, then start saying your prayers regularly and your account will be cancelled end of August.

@GBM, your best bet is to start with the cancellation form THIS month but date it for the expiry date of your contract, that way they can't say you left it too late and need to pay for another month.

After your last payment keep an eye on your bank account, and YES you can block or reverse a debit from iburst, this I know from my own experience.
To be on the safe side, right after the last payment go to your bank and have the debit blocked, this cost +_R20 and it will stop any debits they try to make for 6 months, and if you still don't feel safe after 6 months have the block renewed.

What is this nonsense insistence on filling in their "cancellation form".

I am month-month. Faxed them a signed fax on company letterhead with account number and gave (more than) a calendar months notice.

Refuse to acknowledge it unless I fill in their form. When I asked them where in my month-mnth contract it says I must fill in a form, the reply is I must give a calendar months notice. Duh - what is the faxed letter?.

What planet are these people from?

That's very interesting MrH.
But what is the legal basis for insisting on a form?

A signed letter is generally good enough legally for anyone else.

Thank you for the links MrH and PeterCH. It will certainly come in handy as I've repeatedly asked iBurst for a cancellation form via e-mail with no luck. Probably ignoring my requests..
