Hi,

I have a D-Link DSL 2640U wireless router (with ADSL2+ capability and a DSL port) but it doesn't have a specific WAN or USB port. Then I have a IBurst desktop modem (with USB and LAN ports) which I want to connect through using the router. When I create a PPPoE connection on my PC whilst it and the IBurst is connected to the router, I can successfully dial through it, but, I can't get the connection to be established through the router itself.

Now my question is, is this possible? I don't have a desktop PC which I can share the connection through, as all the computers on the network is laptops. anyone ever try this? hints/tips/prayers?

Naw, you need an ethernet broadband router to do that. I used a D-Link DI-604 with my desktop modem, but I believe they've been discontinued. Anyway, a DSL router won't work sorry.

PS. There is a way you can share a connection dialing up from one computer. Have a look around on the forums, it's been discussed before.

Thanks. Tried my ass off to get this to work. My logic fails me when thinking that a router able to create a PPPoE connection via DSL can't utilize that same capability over ethernet.

But anywhu, found a Netgear that should to the trick.

It is actually able, those D-Links run linux (like 99.9% of routers), just need to get raspppoe on it. There should be a way to get shell access on it (google is your friend :P)

Uhm, as far as I'm aware RASPPPoE is for Windows only (except if there's a fatal flaw in my memory).
The idea of getting shell access to the router is great, but (as with many decent routers which run linux) they limit the access even administrator login has.
A way to work around this is to get IPCOP distro installed and running on the router, although this does present problems which need to be fixed and unfortunately time is of the essence.
I'm going to keep this router for now though, as this is quite an interesting problem, so any ideas are very welcome.

cant remember the suit name correctly then. pppoeconf if im not mistaken. i remember i got full root access on my netgear dg834 with a simple query string modification to the webadmin interface. dlink should allow for the same, how else would their technicians do advanced analysis

so nobody got this right? i got exactly the same adsl router...

can't you just use the router as a switch? and set up pppoe on the pc?
