Well I happened to download 7GB in 10 days (very unusual) and now I can't access any web sites. Every request gets redirected to helpdesk.iburst.co.za. I'm sure they're doing this to everyone who downloads double their bandwidth allowance. Anybody else experiencing this?

PS: I'm trying to download UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion.

Same here but only international addresses don’t work.
But it strange because I have only done 2.4G on a 1.5G package.

This change has just been introduced so I think if you're capped you won't be able to do anything, i.e. hard capped

It would be nice if these fools warned us before cutting us off

Sounds more like a problem on their network, some adresses were redirecting to helpdesk.wbs a while back..

Why are you sure they're doing it to everyone who goes over double their usage, they've never done it before. Sounds like a good trick though..

EDIT: Lol what change, are you sure about this at all?

iBurst is a **** company so that's the 1st thought that went through my mind. Luckily I had my Nokia PC Suite installer on my portable HDD and am now using my phone (3G) to surf. I can't call them cause the last time I did that the call cost me R56! I'll probably just get myself drunk and try iBust again tomorrow.

EDIT: There's nothing on the incident report page so I can only assume that from tonight iBurst is capped regardless of package.

Are you on Play or PRO plans?
Play plans are hard capped and Pro are soft capped. Not sure if they have any policies regarding cutting you off if you use twice your bandwidth.

"It would be nice if these fools warned us before cutting us off "

You can turn on daily email notifications via there client area so you know how much bandwidth you have used.

Lol I have been a iBurst subscriber for almost 2 years now....
I’m on Pro so I should be soft capped but well maybe they decided to do something stupid again.

Just found out my exchange is DSL enabled so tomorrow I’m ordering it, can’t wait to be rid of iBurst. Will be a load of my mind.

Yep, you should be on Soft cap then and should be able to browse.
May be they have some sort of policy that you can utilise certain amount of data while you are on Soft Cap although I am not aware of it. I was one the very first iBurst users (I think 3 years ago) was getting download speeds up to 170k which you can only dream about now but it was expected when they started signing up big volumes (Survivor ads probably are to blame for this... hehe)

Adsl definitely better then iBurst.

3G HSPDA best if you can afford the high out of bundle charges.
then ADSL.

How is HSDPA better? Those 1.6mbps speeds aren't going to happen and wire > wireless in the end. ADSL will be more stable, consistent and have much better latency.

1.8Mb you mean, no you won't get that but it seems way more reliable and I get up to 40kbps-120kbps download speeds compared to 30k's on 512k ADSL line. But I am in good coverage area for 3G HSDPA. The above stats are 2-3 months old though.
May be on 4mb ADSL line 30k's will be better.. but ADSL is most cost effective internet solution in the end. fast enough and cheap enough..

I'm on the 3.5GB Pro package. Seems like the problem ha been resolved.

Well everything is working again today, maybe they installed a new “Feature” last night that we don’t know about.
Even thou its working I’m still going to go order ADSL as soon as the local Telkom shop opens

Much better but I had connection problems from 04:00 - 07:15. I've been with iBurst since pre-launch but I'm now considering ADSL. Another thing that pisses me off is the cost of bandwidth; 1GB for R199 is insane!

Yeah that’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to. Buying a gig for R70 :D and be able to buy local only accounts.

Is that CRM new? First time I've seen it, would be nice if they added account information (ie. outstanding amounts/payment options etc). Spoke to a chap at helpdesk at about 11:20 last night, he told me it was a problem on their side. He offered to phone me when it was fixed but I was about to goto sleep so I declined.

No that’s the old Helpdesk screen from way back, haven’t seen it in a while. Also phoned them but no one answered for 15mins so I decided that’s enough and just gave up.

somehow I don't understand how i can use up my bw with all this feking shaping going on in the iburst network... I think I sohuld "borrow" my roommates dsl...
