I had to laugh at this. The Downloads page at www.iburst.co.za points us to what could possibly be called the world's most bandwidth-hungry sites/applications... Google Earth, Google Videos, and Slooh (www.slooh.com - a paid streaming site for astronomy enthusiasts). Oh, and Wikipedia seems to be added as an afterthought.

You can also download a 36MB Dashboard - which doesn't work for ethernet-connected terminals. Various other cuties available too (backgrounds, screensaver). At least some stuff to keep the hounds at bay. ;)

Made me smile, thinking of the poor users zooming off to these places, after having paid for his 1GB for the month. (How can one draw a sad smile?) Also note the disclaimer at the bottom of the page - these downloads count towards your monthly usage...

Jeez, that's some piss-poor coding... 36MB, bloated beyond belief!

Yep, I mentioned this elsewhere on the forum too

Especially considering what it does...
The iBurst Dashboard will ease your web experience by providing you with:

  • the ability to connect to the iBurst network,
  • Quick Bubbles links to applications & sites, and
  • functionality such as network usage monitoring & upload & download speed dials.

I didn't see it on the iBurst front page. ;)

Yea well, wouldn't be suprised that they're trying to waste your bandwidth so you'd buy more. a Very clever idea indeed

haha, yah i was tempted to download that just to check it out. I geuss its handy to see your usage and speed with out checking the site. Okay i could just use netlimiter which is a firewall too and yet is only 2mb. A much better program too im shure.

Iburst are getting clever with milking their customers, yet nt blatantly, and not in such a bad way either. They provide services which can help, but which generally vould make them more money.

pathetic!

so given that this not working dashboard app is hosted on their web site, why the hell it has to be counted toward your VERY EXPENSIVE gigs???

sf1, it works - if you are using the USB connector. It also says very plainly in the manual that it will not work with an ethernet connection. Nothing wrong in that respect.

As for why it counts, well... dunno. Not that 36MB is going to make such a big difference anyway.

Well swordfish. That is how everything works. Is there any provider or ISP whos content on their site doesnt count towards your cap? It is unfair, but that is how it works.

And it des work.. where did you get that? None of their apps work on ethernet.
