Iburst is a JOKE!!!

ok

I cannot even post the reason why, because the iburst service is so unreliable. I tried to send you an example of my typical pings. Because the post was longer than ten lines, I received the message "Document has no data". I've been using this service for six months now. Ever since I joined, it has been a complete nightmare. Our modem keeps disconnecting, our connection stalls every five minutes. This is despite the fact that we have five green modem lights showing constantly. You can understand my frustration. My message was nasty I'll admit -but it reflect only a tiny portion of what I really feel. iBurst has been experimenting with the public for too long. Six months is a long time to be "testing" their network. I've lost confidence in their ability to deliver.

no choice

i can't. i need broadband for my work. unfortunately, telkom does not provide ADSL in hyde park (surprising! when you consider that its right next door to the most productive area in the country). in any case, i feel very strongly against supporting telkom in any way. i was hopeful that iburst would turn out to be a worthwhile alternative...

Seems ur posts are a bit contradictory. 1st it is unusable to you , then you cant drop it cause u need it ?

As from my side I have no complaints with it .

no contradiction

if its a choice between having no broadband and an unreliable broadband..then i take the latter. who do you work for anyway??

Have you been updating your modem's firmware and reading other users posts?

yeah dude you came a little too late, the iburst bashing has sorta stopped now that everyone get thier fair share of speed, so the only way you're gonna sway people is if you start talking about the impending cap

As much as I would love to be in a position to agree with you there I am not, and I sympathise with jamieb - it has taken 15 minutes for me to be able to reply to your post. Right now I am hoping against all odds that the new Olivedale-BS delivers what Bryanston-BS did back in November & December 2004.

ok sorry i forgot people like to put words under microscopes, almost everyone, there no wait practically everyone, most, some of, take your pick

works nice for me, dont know what this okes issue is. chances are his in a bad signal area, or setup something wrong

jamieb's issue is not uncommon - WBS are still struggling with an issue where you are handed off to another tower that is close enough for your modem to see it, but too far for traffic to travel - hence the 'stallled' connection, forcing a manual disconnect and reconnect.

I have the exact same issue with the Northcliff and Randburg base stations - on Northcliff I get decent speed, 5 lights and 100% connection strength on Randburg no speed but still 5 lights and 100 connection. Annoying thing is that Northcliff passes me to Randburg every 5 minutes.... 20+ disconnections this afternoon alone....

The solution suggested by the call center is to place a metal object (tray or similar) on the one side of the modem, 'shielding' it from the unwanted tower - just put the tray north, east, south etc and test for stability.... not entirely sure that is a long term solution.

So I also sympathise with those users still struggling with issues - I am one
