Iburst is a JOKE!!!

jamieb's issue is not uncommon - WBS are still struggling with an issue where you are handed off to another tower that is close enough for your modem to see it, but too far for traffic to travel - hence the 'stallled' connection, forcing a manual disconnect and reconnect.

I have the exact same issue with the Northcliff and Randburg base stations - on Northcliff I get decent speed, 5 lights and 100% connection strength on Randburg no speed but still 5 lights and 100 connection. Annoying thing is that Northcliff passes me to Randburg every 5 minutes.... 20+ disconnections this afternoon alone....

The solution suggested by the call center is to place a metal object (tray or similar) on the one side of the modem, 'shielding' it from the unwanted tower - just put the tray north, east, south etc and test for stability.... not entirely sure that is a long term solution.

So I also sympathise with those users still struggling with issues - I am one
I wish WBS would do some research here, I have shielded my UTD from other base-stations using both a wet-11 parabolic reflector thingy, as well as using the directional external antenna (patch as they call it), and neither of those solves the problems, so I don't buy this theory WBS are punting about base-station hand-offs - maybe it applies to some people, but frankly it doesn't make sense in my situation.

im in the south, i dont think the people in my area can afford iburst, so i normally have really good speeds:>

Anybody also feel that maybe the reason for the slowness two days before the cap comes in is because everybody is downloading like mother f****s ? LOL!!! I know I am! :D

Anyways, I like iBurst... I hate Tellkom... I love the work Hellkom.co.za is doing - borders on Humanitarian work... iBurst is king.

Btw... it took me 20 seconds to reply 08:00 in the morning.

im not downloading any more than i ussually do

How can u be :) you have had teh damn thing maxed out for the last few months :p

hehe well can you blame me? who knows when we'll have this sort of access again

yo pan,

I also in da south (don't have iburst yet cos I still watching the waters very carefully), and I just wanna know why you reckon you connecting to the sanlam tower?? according to iBurst website there is a base station in the forest hill area... or was it a problem with my eyes??

I am querying because I dont wanna be caught in a poor signal zone, if there is one in forest hill its only a couple of hundred metres radius from where I stay, so this would be a huge bonus when it comes to signal

Am I right in assuming the sanlam tower is in JHB central (town?)??

6 months and now he b1tches about it. I can understand the need for broadband, but why post something like this 2 days before the actual official launch. When they launch and you STILL have k2k speeds, then make an issue of it.

Also, CHECK YOUR SIGNAL, signal is VERY important and you WILL get CRAP speeds if your signal sucks ass.

Hear hear!

So, vowthorn, which brand of tinfoil have you found to be the most successful? :D

well lets qualify that a bit, you were a sentech user and consider 60KB/s good speeds :p
