Hi All

I'm considering getting a second hand iburst desktop modem and sign up on a month-month package to test before switching to their uncapped.

According to their fb rep, i'm on the boarder of a fair to poor coverage area and can expect speeds of up to 1mb.

I'm fine with that speed, my primary concern is latency, as a play LoL and some other online games. International latency in the range of 260ms and 280ms is fine by me. I won't be able to enjoy the experience with anything higher though.

What's your experience with iburst latency in Cape Town?

Thanks.

I'm in a fair coverage area and latency was bad really bad. Around 50ms at times, but with many spikes.
After installing an external antenna it improved quite a bit, however latency was never better than 50ms and still had regular spikes.

Tests were all done to servers closest to me, using speedtest and in game latency graphs.

This was a few years ago, I no longer use iburst.

Thanks Mr Jax. I guess I'll need to bite the bullet and test. My TM service is really crappy to non-existant at the moment.

It worked quite well on TM in the early days. Can't get adsl in my area due to cable theft that happened 2 years ago....

If you have to use wireless, I think iBurst's latency is better than cellular.

Last week their fb rep was getting someone to contact me. The mail I sent to them hasn't been replied to yet. Not the sort of company I prefer dealing with, whether for a month-month or capped service. Giving iburst a miss.
