hopefully heaven but probably hell
So I was told that I would be able to pick up my modem last week friday... then on friday I was told today... today I was told definitly 4pm today or tommorrow morning... now I am told Wednesday morning???

Can whoever reads this from iBurst please make up your minds when exactly your modems will be arriving...

thanks

Another very good question... hint hint ;-)

Methinks WBS are trying to predict when I will cancel & return my modem so you can take it...

I think resellers still have modems, rather than going through wbs direct maybe try a reseller. Plus some of the resellers are really competitive and give extra stuff (webspace, email stuff) as well as free delivery

If you think you are waiting long now... wait until you start downloading something on Iburst...

ha ha ha... i have been baptized by Sentech so yeah whatever... I just neeed anything that is not Telkom and is 24/7 and Vodafone is also not an option.

dun worry found a big fat list on the iBurst site.

tradepage delivers for free and seem to be one of the larger ones, on top of that they offer good support and have even taken steps to fill in the gaps left by WBS, like setting up thier own mail server for clients while wbs takes thier time delivering on the pop3 promise. They can be accessed from http://www.wirelessza.co.za and http://wireless.tradpage.co.za

Tactic

Well, I think they are holding them back for the reason that they dont want users at the moment who will hold back their profits. Keep in mind that they sell those modems for R2800, and running a "soft launch" promotion of R454. By the time those modems com it will be time to pay R599/R699.

Just speculating

yeah I dont think they're holding back for profits, they'll make more with the per month fee than the modems in the long run.

vowthorn, there's some dude that advertises on myadsl that says he has stock. when the advert pops up, call his cell and check

okay, you insult his intelligence? why? on which basis?

If I were WBS selling UNCAPPED 1 meg connection at a DISCOUNTED rate as a prelaunch package, being 2 weeks from launch, I would hold back selling said accounts UNTIL I got my cap sorted out. Especially, now since the 3rd of March, you can't purchase the pre-launch package anymore.

What use is it to them to sell you a package they can't offer anymore, worse yet, not even capped.

So, if they do sell more UTD's now, and use more bandwidth, they get charged more for bandwidth they wouldn't be using otherwise (because the cap would sort it out)

Thus, they'll spend more money on bandwidth, eating away at their already huge investment.

So before you speak, please think.... you sound like one of those monkeys I SO dearly love speaking to on helpdesk </sarcasm>

I predict that there will be no shortage of modems come the first "real" billing month, and no response to the issues users have raised.

but i mean think about it, tomorrow they will start conducting an over the air upgrades on all our modems and that will run till friday... so maybe while we're here pointing fingers at how evil WBS is, they are really trying to save new users from the frustration on connecting with old firmware. If you waited untill right before the launch to get the modem then thats just the risk you take. I don't know why you guys waited so long to get it, let me tell ya, 3 and a half months of 1mbit and over and no cap was just beautifull.

you got a point there, is my little slimothy growing into a formunite with valid opinions instead of "I AM SO LEET I DOWNLOAD AT 120kb/s YOU DUMBASSES!!!" ?? :D

 I really don't get it - AFAIK this firmware upgrade is something brand spanking new - to work with the base-station firmware that's been upgraded - it's not like this is the same firware that I updated to months back off iBurst.co.za... Slimothy, please elaborate/explain what you meant.

well whatever the reason it seems iBurst are just as pathetic as Sentech... modems??? no such thing... I suspect tommorrow I will be told that they will only be available Thursday..... one wanders if companies like WBS and Sentech are prepared to take on the likes of Telkom?

To talk about a 3 day waiting period for a modem that in my case has been extended to close to 14 days is as pathetic as going to McDonalds and asking for a burger and being told they dont have any today try tommorrow...

but hey... isnt that just the 'good' service you can expect from SA?

I am cancelling my order from iBurst... and I havent even got it yet... that has to be the funniest crap ever :)
