Yesterday as customary I reset my iBurst modem so that the useless BW monitor doesn't bill me for las month's usage. What do I discover? I can no longer access zoneedit.com, nor can my Linux box do a IP update.

Accessing www.zoneedit.com gives me 403 error. I though this was bullsh1t so I connected via Clipse's PayVPN and true's g0d I can access it.

GET YOUR FSCKING ACT TOGETHER IBURST!!!!!

Anyone got a number for Shaun Green?

Supplementary info:

* site can be pinged from all machines incl Linux server
* Site can be accessed thru anonymouse.org or going via VPN to someone else's machine over iBurst

Based on above the problem can only lie with iBurst.... I bet they're now clamping down on people who use their iBurst link to host websites.

Well probably. They would have given you webspace with the account like many ISP's do if they wanted you to host websites.

But I dont care much.. it doesnt effect me, but its a problem. When they block something I use THEN ill be pissed. :P

Its True

Its true ZoneEdit is dead through iBurst. Tried through a VPN connection to my work and via a GPRS dial up connection & both connected fine!

I noticed that the DDNS client in my wireless router (connects to noip.com) was also getting ballsd up. It did an update, but to some other address not mine. The thing is that the address existed & was vaild - 196.2.100.253. This is a new router so maybe the fault is with the router ?

Um.. no. www.zoneedit.com works just fine with my connection. Maby its a Joburg thing?

Am I missing anything? I first typed it in with one e, then with two.
You guys are so eager to hate Iburst...

hmm. very interesting becuase it works fine on my connection. very fast too btw.

Do you guys often use the site? Maby its only kicking people who actually use the service? But this all sounds very far fetched.. its likley to be just a problem in JHB or something.

I generally DONT connect to this provider, I use DynaDNS or no-ip. Could be a block in the UUNET backbone, or as you say just a JHB thing. Maybe JHB does a lot more of that type of thing, so the local routers have been set to block?

I doubt they would block something on local routers. It makes no sense. Neither does blocking speciically that site.

I think its just a problem that will most likley be sorted out soon, hopefully. But you guys would be right to complain. Probably get the issue sorted out.

Its a site that provides Dynamic DNS. This means that people can get to your (dynamic) IP via a url like myhomesite.noip.org. I use it to keep in contact with mates overseas. It is possible to run your own web site, ftp server, or even mail server (with a bit of dodging of the iBurst block on SMTP).

But it works fine for me... I know they have apparent reasons to block it, but it obviously isnt blocked if its only for some people.. what the point then?

If htey block me and all others too, then this would probably be the reason.

Must be a Joburg problem as it works fine from CT as Ekhaatvensters says.

:) I got it to work today after reconnecting for the 1200th time. I reported the problem to the helldesk last night and they must have fixed the problem because it works and still works. Am still waiting for them to get back to me though

This is the first time I ever had a problem with iBurst and FYI I've been hosting my own mail server and sites for 7+ months now without a hitch... One of the sites is my alarm control panel.

Thanks for the help chaps... As for thinking iBurst blocked it how else would I know without asking other people to check, so that's why I post here

It cool. But for someone just checking you sounded pretty angry and definate about it. nothing to worry about, im shure it would piss me off if its my alarm and 7 websites.

Yep I was annoyed... because I was trying to work and then discovered my e-mail is broken and it was down for over 6 hours because I didn't know zoneedit was inaccessible. And yes I was also annoyed because it meant I couldn't see the alarm from the web. I watch it religiously, you cannot afford to take chances where I stay and not being able to watch my home from work does annoy me. Nonetheless FYI it's only 4 websites, 3 of which are for my business
