I've spent the entire morning trying to search for an answer but nothing i tried work.

I got an iburst desktop usb modem.
I bought a new 2750U modem - telkom issue, but bought from private individual. Now I want to use my router to connect laptop + cell to internet via wifi.
My old billion 400g router worked well. but i cannot get dlink to connect.

Below is my settings. Funny thing is, if i connect with the Iburst dashboard on my laptop via the router (no USB cable) it works. but only the laptop is connected... cell cannot connect. It's as if the router cannot make the dailup connection for itself.
there is some conflicting info on mybb. somesay that it needs wan port, others say normal lan port works fine.
with the billion there is no wan ports and lan port worked fine.

any help will be much appreciated.

What's happening is your laptop is establishing a PPPoE connection with the the iBurst modem connected on the LAN port.
You are right, you need some way of getting the router to establish the PPPoE connection.

It really depends on your the software on your router whether it will allow you to establish a PPPoE connection with a device on the LAN port or whether it only does this with the built-in ADSL modem. In general, if you have an 'internet router' with a WAN port, as opposed to an 'ADSL modem/router', it will work with an iBurst desktop modem.

BTW: the 'PPPoE pass-through' setting in your screenshot is for allowing another device on your network to establish a PPPoE connection with the built-in ADSL modem, bypassing the router.

You might be able to change the software on your router to something more flexible, like OpenWrt.

thanks

I was looking for an all in one router... don't want more routers piling up.

3g (must work with my ZTE MF190 modem), 802.11n, ADSL, removable antennas. Guess I thought all adsl modem / routers will have the capablity to dailup with iburst modem, as the Billion 400g.

Ah well, I'm cancelled my Iburst account 1 Nov, thinking by end of Nov is calender month, but true to their crappy form, a calnder month is actually end of December. Didn't even argue. Not worth the effort.

Therefore come 1 Jan, I will be using my new 8ta (unfortunately have to sign 24month contract), hopefully faster connection.
I'm pretty sure 8ta speed will be faster than the 0.5Mbps I'm getting now.
