Just got a call from my brother saying that his friend needs a internet connection for his house.. His thinking of either going with Iburst or ADSL (WebAfrica).

I never really had major issues with Iburst accept for the CAP that's too low for what we pay :( I always get good speeds and hardly ever any disconnects accept for last week where I had a few... And my coverage is poor so I guess Iburst won't be a bad suggestion.

His first question to me tho was when will Iburst drop there prices.... So if possible can Shaun or Jannie shed some light on this? Will we still see a price drop or cap increase this year? I'm sure if there's a drop in the price or an increase in the caps he will sign with Iburst for sure. I will personally make sure of that :D

Thx!

Make absolutely sure that your friend has a good iBurst signal before he joins iBurst.

If possible take your modem to his place and run some tests.

For the prices/packages issue, we are all in the same boat.

Waiting until iBoss decides to behave himself, until then we wait patiently..

Thx for the tip Madhawk, will go to his place this weekend and run some speed tests.

ADSL. A stable 384k ADSL connection will outperform an unstable iBurst connection. And you have a wide choice of ISPs with respect to your data cap - you don't have to wait for your provider to drop their rates.

At present no radio system beats the stability of wire.

At the level of costs:

If one requires a fixed line phone anyway, ADSL remains the most cost effective service.

From previous notes on the forum, it is highly likely that iBurst will keep considering themselves as superior to ADSL as being mobile as well, and will charge a premium accordingly.

The only reason I'm using iBurst, is that I can't even get a Telkom service at home - they required me to lay the cable from somewhere to my home when I applied a few years ago.

This is a no-brainer, if he has an ADSL enabled exchange then ADSL all the way!

+1 for ADSL. At least he gets a choice in who provides him with bandwidth without being locked in some stupid contract. R29/gig FTW!

Download and take PuTTY with to do your iBurst signal testing, look for your best costing, -75 and -85 is good

-75 is better than -85. For great speed try get yourself -65.

Thanks

It depends what u wanna do with it. i've had neotel, iburst, 3G and DSL.

Surfing/Browsing/Email : iBurst or DSL or Neotel

Downloading odd Program : iBurst or DSL or Neotel

Downloading Large Programs, lots of bandwidth usage : DSL/Possibly Neotel 10GB.

Online Gaming : DSL

Cheapest and Fastest one to get (no telkom line) : iBurst or Neotel

Need a phone as well : Neotel , DSL (i think iBurst had a phone thing too, cant remember)

Practically 0 calls to call center : DSL

Less than 5h waiting period for call center : Yeah right....

Full speed during bad weather : DSL

Dont want to be affected when your copper goes to where the need is greater : iBurst or Neotel.

Hosting something internally, web etc : DSL (others can but latency i found to be high)
