Oh how quickly we forget! I must say I will reserve judgement until we see how this performs. I am astounded at how people are jumping onto this IBurst stuff when we were so recently lauding MyWireless. Don't you think IBurst will also have problems? Don't you think some of their promises will not be met? Don't you think that the speeds of 1Mb/s will likely be quite a bit slower? If you read the early postings on MyWireless (from Rodent in many instances) people were super happy with it and it was only later that performance started to go down. With 130 odd beta testers, we haven't really seen the system under pressure. Ultimately it is more power to us the users as we will hopefully have 2 alternatives to telkom in the near future. I hope it rolls out smoothly but I would be most suprised if it does. I am not a download demon admitedly but I really have had no problems (apart from a few days when it was down for one or other reason) with MyWireless.

[/post]Well this is really what sets Telkomonopoly's ADSL apart from both Sentech's MyWireless & WBS' iBurst, although the Telkomonopoly rollout is now extremely slow for ADSL, once you have it you have a comparatively reliable service, maybe slower than the speeds that some have accomplished with iBurst, but reliable nonetheless.

What has WBS delivered so far, aside from incompetence? Mobility? If that's your need then iBurst/Sentech/3G may be for you. But the fact is that less than 20% of broadband users require the mobility. (Many studies show this).

um they offered 1mbit first, adsl users are quick to talk about 192, but 192kbit to me now is like dial up is to you.

WBS made a huge mistake this week and got a lot of crap because of it (rightly so) but all they really need to do to stay in the race is tidy up thier bandwith management software and keep thier connections faster than everyone else.

Apart from this mistake that they made lets look at the reasons they are better than telkom

1) they are not telkom
2) flexibility (with telkom you need to buy a whole new acount or go with a fly by night company to get more than 3GB with WBS you buy more bandwith)
3) once you are capped, you still get international access (it is called the internet for a reason)
4) 1mbit for the same price as telkoms 192kbit option (192 is such a f*cking joke)
5) with WBS you can get your connection same day, with Telkom it can take 4 weeks to 4 months
6) WBS suck when you go with them direct but if you use a large reseller you will get extra goodies and the reseller has more clout with WBS because they can represent large portions of WBS' userbase (www.wirelessza.co.za)

now why is telkom ADSL better than WBS iBurst

1) better pings
2) uncapped local usage

for me, WBS cleans the floor with telkom, even 512 ADSL looks so old school and 1mbit ADSL (coming soon) will probably cost a wad. Although its not hard to clean the floor with Telkom seeing as they don't even try please customers.

Nope, that definitely is not all that WBS need to do, first and foremost they need to apologise to all their customers, and admit that it was WBS' own fault that their own Bandwidth Management System did not work [and BTW still does not]. To all the customers paying full price for a speedlessness connection that is being shaped to death, a double apology and some sort of a refund is essential.

as i was sharing with someone today:

i bought iburst for two main reasons. http and ftp. i dont dwell in the p2p areas all that much. my msn is functioning perfectly which is a bonus.

there is something about iburst's speed that makes me all warm and fuzzy.

i do think wbs need to focus on after sales service which right now is poor and i think their customer relations needs a good and swift kick up the ar.se!
