Are you being ripped off by Iburst?

I was shocked to discover last week that Iburst introduced cheaper contracts to new subscribers without bothering to reduce the prices being paid by their current subscribers. Since April I have been paying R299 per month for 700megs of bandwith while new subscribers were getting 1 gig for R199. When I queried this I was told that I could change to the better contract but would not be refunded the R800 I have been overcharge since April. Nor would I get the 2.4 gigs that I have been undersupplied.

Now I have been again supplied with just 700meg for December costing R299 even though this contract is now non-existent among the Iburst products advertised.

Hows THAT for a brilliant way to fleece loyal clients!! I advise all Iburst subscribers to check their contracts against the current products on offer. I wonder how many other long-standing clients they are unwittingly fleecing.

When their contract prices rise Iburst just TAKE the extra cash. So why do they not do the same when their prices drop??

Ah; have a good, long hibernation did you? :p That more-or-less carcase (it's getting to be just a pile of bones these days) you see before you is the dead horse that many, many people have flogged for many, many moons on this very topic. Yes, they did Evil(tm) with that particular lie by omission and overall, they have a far from saintly demeanour; get used to it, it is NOT about to change.

Oh, and brace yourself for the R99 (once-off at least, be grateful for meagre mercies) downgrade fee you're going to be charged for going from R299/m to R199/m (assuming you go that route, instead of for more bandwidth). But at least *after* that you'll slowly be narrowing the loss ..even if it is an asymptotic curve!

Problem was I was on the road a lot this year, so was not in the loop when they altered contracts.

What is unacceptable is that they have previously altered contracts automatically, either adding, or increasing package costs. Technically they are in breach of contract for 2 reasons: (a) their previous contractual changes were automatic, thus confirming a standard procedure when packages alter from which they have no deviated and (b) the current contract Im on has been defunct for eight months.

Anyway, kudos for their follow up .... have already been contacted this morning (Ok, I have been posting my moan all over a variety of consumer complaints websites)

Technically, they didn't alter the contracts - they introduced new ones, while leaving existing ones intact. MTN has gone the same route: current contracts remain as is, and can/will be migrated upon contract renewal.

Sucks, but there you have it. I moved from the inaugural R699 contract to the 3G Classic (R450) with no migration fee - I guess it depends how lucky you are.

that's the main reason I don't stop downloading!

They should at least contacted us, and give us a good price or something......

Sure... Explain please then how one can no longer apply for one of their 'old' packages.. They do not exist any longer according to the iBurst web site... (Try applying for one...)

RIP-OFF!!

Essentially, iBurst is phasing out the older contracts, which is why one can no longer apply for an older contract. But in ethics it is wrong, because it just not fair on loyal existing customers, but iburst schemes they can still wing more money from their unsuspecting customers... lol, ripping people off the legal way, haha.

I found out about the new package issue today and was severely p'd off!

I checked up here to find out what was going on, then HelloPeter - there's a lot off very irritated customers in the same boat.

Anyway, emailed every iBurst address I could find, spitting venom - just received a phone call offering me the waiving of migration fee and one month (3Gig contract) bandwidth free... don't know if I'm selling out too cheaply by accepting it when there are loads of their customers out there getting ripped off still...
