I just saw an iBurst advertisement a few days ago. It says that a month to month wireless connection is R199 for 1 GB of data p/m excluding the modem (which costs R2439 for a USB Modem and R2839 for a Desktop Modem), while a 24 month iBurst contract will cost R219 for 1GB of data p/m including a USB modem and R239 for 1 GB of data p/m including a desktop modem.

Vodacom's data bundles cost more because for 1 GB of data, it's R289 p/m, both with a 24 month contract and with a top up package/prepaid.

I am considering buying an iBurst USB modem and then get data month to month as I am not comfortable with the idea of attaining a contract.

What do you think, is iBurst's service good? Are their speeds fast enough? Should I just use Vodacom (MTN sucks :) )

I'd say that iBurst is a good option if you are planning to use it where you know they have coverage. iBurst's coverage is limited compared with Vodacom's - on VC you can always fall back to GPRS in outlying areas. It all depends on how mobile you want to be.

I live in Arcadia, close to the Union Buildings and there's coverage in that area. And I'll use my wireless connection on my desktop pc so I won't be mobile.
