Can anyone tell me why is the Iburst per Gigi price so hight? Why can other companies like Aerosat offer uncapped internet but Iburst charges an arm and a leg and a eye...?

well it's not just iburst that charges an arm, leg or eye!

ADSL also charges an arm and kidney once you reach the cap, 3G charges 2 kidneys for additional bw...

I blame it all on the government and then Telskum for being the bastards they are!

hmmmmm

R 1,497.00 for a 3GB package then out of bundle is R 2.00/MB and In Bundle is R 0.49/MB

So let me get this right if you take a bundle package for R1497 with 3GB bandwidth you pay R0.49/MB thereafter?

Multiply that with 1000MB to get 1Gig and you end up pay R490 for 1gig additional bandwidth? so that's cheaper?

ahhh ic I didn't know so I was taking the cheapest figure available and adding it up :D

does anyone have the adsl pricing per gig details? I've been looking around for it

You've got it wrong. In bundle is R0.49 per MB.

Out of bundle is R2.00 per MB

That is R2000 per GB.

Nope, more like R2048. You forget 1 gb = 1024mb

I pay R75 per gig extra. R198.98 for 3gig. More or less R700 for 10 gig. www.webafrica.co.za

NICE but hell at R800/month plus hard capping and TELESKUM product I'll stick to my 3gig Iburst with 64k thereafter for R679 :D

Nope ... I'll rather stick with my 30Gig for R680 a month
I wanted to go with iBurst and well promices were made and it never happend so i got me a 30Gig thats better than iburst

Will the outcome of next months ADSL hearing at Icasa have any impact on our iBurst bandwidth?
[Assuming the hearings results in a complete reduction of bandwidth costs and/or increase in capping threshholds]

It could if Telkpom pass on the reductions to their charges for the SAT-3 cable. The shurely Iburst could buy cheaper bandwidth, but I dont think they use the SAT3 cable at the moment...

So it will probably have no effect.

But could put preassure on Iburst (or the suppliers who the ybuy bandwidth from) to make prices cheaper and give higher caps, so an indirect effect could well be seen.

And then R92 line rental and R680 for ADSL line rental.

So thats... um.. R1452, compared to R599 for 3 gigs and unlimited at 64kb.
For R1452 you could get 12 gigs on the 9 gig package (3 gigs extra) which will be unshaped as an extra bonus, and still get 64kb uncapped afterwards.

Just to put things right...

A DSL1024 + AYCE Account taken to the max would cost R48.43 per Gb. But does it allow p2p? I don't think it does.

The cheapest price per Gb on Iburst would be on the G1 package. If you ran it non-stop for a 30 day month, you could theoretically download 20.71Gb for R469pm, at an average cost per Gb of R22.64.

On the G9 package (which is unshaped for p2p) you could theoretically download 28.21Gb for R1099pm, at an average cost per Gb of R38.95. This might just be the cheapest p2p friendly broadband option in SA.

There is an unshaped/uncapped IS ADSL1024 package from GamCo on which you could theoretically download 316.41Gb per month at an all in cost of R3394.98pm, which would imply a per Gb cost of R10.73. But the monthly outlay is quite steep to achieve those rates. Not sure if the ISP would even allow you to pull down 324Gb.

These figures are if you are capped and running at 64k. Try buying all those gigs extra after you are capped and see how much it costs you! If you use the G9 package your cap will be the cheapest at R139! R1,099 + R139x19Gb(refer to above. this is what you still need to download if you want to reach the 28.21Gb) = R3740 per month!

Well the point is that having 64kb access after being capped is a major advantage of Iburst. It is also obviously factored into the cost of the service, WBS dont count on noone using up any bandwidth once they are capped.

It is true, extra gigs are very expensive on Iburst, but I have simply never though of buying them, I dont think many people do. 64kb (which bursts higher) is fine for surfing and even downloading at about 8-11kb. I know the prices are high but for a wireless service (i.e. compared to MTN and Vodacom) its pretty good.

Well buying the extra gigs allows you to continue downloading at 1Mbps. If you could do that, then you could also download 316Gb just like the GamCO ADSL package. The additional cost, of course, would be totally horrendous: about R41k. But last I heard, you could only top up an Iburst package once, either buy 1 extra Gb or 3 extra Gb. You couldn't top up again within a calender month.

But I think anyone would be crazy buying extra Iburst bandwidth at R139/Gb plus. It is not cost effective when you still have very usable internet access beyond your cap.

I have the 9Gb package because I enjoy using full speed p2p. But generally, the benefit of the 64kbps post-cap access is often grossly undervalued when doing comparisons with other services. I really think it is a major plus factor for choosing Iburst.

If you can afford it though, and you really want to pull down huge amounts of data at maxiumum speed, ADSL is the way to go. Even if it is just for the miriad of choice that is available on ADSL. But lets not kid ourselves, a basic ADSL package is very expensive compared to Iburst. The benefits of the ADSL options and lower per gig bandwidth charges only kick in when you are prepared to fork out large amounts of additional cash.

I've had to buy an extra gig twice in one calendar month before. Never had any hassles there. But I do think that they limit the amount of gigs that you can purchase within a month. Maybe Shaun Green can clarify this?
