I am having some pretty bad problems with iBurst. I keep getting dropped completely. I'm in the Randburg area. Anyone else experiencing these problems? Is this normal for this area? At the same time that my connection keeps dropping, I have 90-100% signal strength....??

Randburg???

I thought you lived at the coast?

Mine in randpark ridge was perfect yesterday and have heard nothing about it going wrong today

Hi dude that posts twice.... :D

I am inbetween cities :) I've had such enormous problems with iBurst the last day or two. I'm in Ferndale. I am pretty sure it's not a problemo on my side.

If you are connecting to the Randburg BS, I can tell you that this tower is almost always overloaded. This is the default tower that I connect to, but I have since installed a directional antenna and focused it on the Hyde Park BS. Problem solved, for me.

So your problem could just be congestion. Or, more likely, it could be that you are switching between several strong BS's in your area. That's supposed to be fine, as per the technology. But in practice, it causes your signal to drop frequently, as you seems to randomly pick up ghost or distant BS's. A directional antenna focused on just one BS may be the solution.

Thanks for the input. I will be leaving the area tomorrow though so no need to worry. But for future record, whatever BS I am using in Ferndale (close to Randburg CBD) is really really bad. I do trust iBurst does something about this asap.

I also connect to Randpark Ridge and it's perfect. So stay away from it before you overload that one as well :)

You should know not to use iBurst if you travel often. Get 3G for that... tsk tsk

Trying to figure out something here,

iBurst have been aggresive in their advertisement and marketing, but have then complemented that with enough B/S in the JHB

JHB = 50 B/S [Sebokeng Temporary, not sure what it means]
PE = 2
PTA = 11
DBN = 5
CPT = 10
Bloem = 2
Kimberly = 1
Nelspruit = 1

Ferndale, New user, wireless

Been reading all the negatives on Neotel, very disappointing.
So am now looking at iBurst (must be wireless).

Anyone using iBurst in the Long street area? How is the coverage/connection?
Or other wireless recommendation.

Long Avenue

I'm in Vale Avenue, up the hill by the petrol station, and I get a good signal with a directional antenna pointed towards the post office/Strydom Park. I've had iburst for over 3 years here now, and it's been pretty reliable, never down for more than a day, unlike my 2 Telkom lines. I guess you would be on the hill facing Randburg, which has an overloaded tower, so best get a test done with a directional antenna before committing yourself. If you don't need much data usage, Vodacom 3G is pretty good in this area.
