Hello,

I am currently on the Roodekrans BS, is anyone else experiencing being disconnected every 30-40 minutes, after which you cannot authenticate for 10 minutes?

This problem started on Wednesday and got worse last night. Downloading seems to make it happen quicker. It is doing it with or without the router and on all my machines

Which basestation are you on?

I suspect that, they made that Kenmare BS live, and now my modem is jumping between Kenmare BS and Roodekrans BS the whole time. My house is smack in the middle between the two farking BS'ses

A directional antenna is the answer, just focus on the BS with the lightest load. Alternatively (and much cheaper) you could make a foil reflector and pop it on your modem's ariel.

Plse advise on who supplies directional antennae. Will do the foil trick in the meantime, it appears that they've sprung up two new BS in reach of my house, the other one is known as Wilro Park, 'cos I am going from 30kb/sec to 120kb/sec when it appears to switch between the two

I also got constant disconnections. I got mine every morning when the (i think) the load on the tower increased (around 8-9am)

i uninstalled the driver (well, i'm an usb) and then downloaded the newest drivers AND firmware from iburst. Now I don't have any problems and a very much more stable connection.

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed and firmware. Especially if ur on the older modem like me.

Yes, I think it is something that new firmware would fix. The modem should just retain a BS connection, unless another BS signal is significantly better, rather than marginally better.

lol, yep thats the latest, but if you dont have it it might help.

I remember when that came out, I thought thereed be new ones all the time, but it just stopped. COmpletley, maby wit ha change to the product soon (I said SOON Iburst) another one will come. For our 12mb broadband to be activated or something.

rofel. Actually im expecting 2 to tell you the truth, or no change, just some cap or price changes would be good.

how do you know if you have the october firmware, is it the hardware version onthe iburst terminal thing in windows?

October firmware does f-all to improve the situation.

The fact is that there are too many basestations here, the modem is hopping between them every 30 mins. One basestation in particular is very very strong here... -62dbm so strong I get 60kbit/sec with the unit in a steel box.

Solved the problem, so far by taking that piece of crap patch antenna that iBurst sold me and hacked the crap out of it to make a directional antenna.

So far so good and my downloads don't die anymore!!!!!! Speeds still better than they ever were!!!!!

Going to Poynting on Monday to get a proper antenna.

same problem - no solution

I have the latest firmware
I have reloaded my PC completely XP SP2 latest patches
I have replaced my network cables
I have tweaked my TCP settings on all my PC's and on all NIC's
I connect to the roodepoort tower using a directional antenna

This started somewhere around end Jully/beginning August...

Did I mention that I had not touched my TCP/IP settings before this started happening....?

I am soo f'king p'd off by now because I try to relax by playing online games and then ker'bam, at the worst time possible i get disconnected.

Trying to speak to the Helpdesk people is useless because they're just a bunch of pimply telephone jockeys that act as if they know something but are actually f'king clueless. I had one of them tell me that a previous problem was caused by a PPOE update in W2K

And they ask why we want to emigrate...

hmm.. Now I never really get disconnected unless the BS has actually gone down or there is a problem on their network etc. But I also found a while back that I would get randomly disconnected from online games. Infact last night I was on batle.net and got pings in the 60's the whole night, I didnt have one bit of lag and obviously never got dissconnected, I had to wait for all the ADSL guys to stop lagging :p

But this has actually totally stopped lately, I guess Iburst is just different for everyone, its so dependent on your posistion and what going on on your and other Base Stations in your area.

I'm not shure what you can do besides get a stronger signal if thats is a problem for you dblfrangelico.

I have conclusively proved that:

- it is the modem hopping between basestations, and it is a different kind of disconnect than one due to poor/noisy signal.

- artificially weakening the signal from unwanted basestations solves the problem, so that the modem "sees" only one good BS and therefore sticks with it.

- the problem started on the same date they made a new basestation live.

I believe that a firmware patch is in order and therefore I have approached iBurst in this regard. Will let you know the outcome of it.

If you read his post entirely you would know that he is using a directional antenna, this cancel's out any possibility of towers interfering with each other

Wasn't referrning to his post, was merely summarizing what I found to be the case where I live you 'tard!
