Hi everybody,

I want to share my iBurst connection using a router. I have read extensively on this and have never seen my particular issue mentioned.

I bought a D-Link DIR-100 yesterday. It is a wired router with a RJ45 WAN port to accept the iBurst connection.

My problem is that my router wants to connect to an always-on ADSL service to finish its configuration. Of course iBurst isn't always-on.

How do other people get iBurst to work with ADSL routers and overcome this connection problem.

Please help as I don't want another redundant router in my collection of IT relics.

Many thanks :)

Because it isn't an issue, you stuffed the router setup :P

I see the spec sheet says it allows "PPPoE for on-demand connectivity"

Can't find a manual for a step by step so you'll have to RTFM :)

Er, thank you, Great One!

(looks for embarrassed smiley)

The router seemed to set itself up as I kept pressing "next".

Now I will RTFM & post again if I cant find out how to do it!

Many thanks :)

Oh dear, I've ground to a halt. I have RTFM and set the router setting as described, yet I'm missing something because it's not connecting to iBurst!

The router settings currently are:

Internet connection type - dynamic PPPoE

Username / Password are those I chose for iBurst

IP settings - none entered as IP is chosen automatically

MTU value was at the default setting (default = 1492) and I changed it to 1392 which seems the accepted one for iBurst

Connection Setting - options were: Always ON, Connection On Demand, or Manual. I selected Connection on Demand

MAC address is that of the router

In LAN settings:

Router IP Address: set by the router
Default Subnet Mask: again set by router
Local Domain Name: left blank
Enable DNS Relay: enabled
DHCP Server Settings
Enable DHCP Server: enabled

DHCP Client List
Host Name IP Address MAC Address Expired Time

Supercomputer 192.168.0.100 00:14:85:7B:88:3A Feb/12/2009 11:23:31

In the Status box we have:

MAC Address: 00:1C:F0: DB:F7:A0
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
WAN
MAC Address: 00:1C:F0: DB:F7:A1
Connection: PPPoE Disconnected
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS: 168.95.1.1 0.0.0.

There is a connect button in the status box & when clicked the connection doesn't happen.

The only other thing which I think may be relevant is that when loading the D-Link router software, the setup wizard cannot complete because there is no intenet connection during setup as the iBurst cable is now in the router and the PC is also connected to the router, as requested by the setup wizard.

Please help!! It's driving me nuts!!

Cheers

I have mine set to always on. Have you tried changing that setting? Everything else looks right (Not sure about the DNS though - you might want to change that to use OpenDNS anyway.)

Indeed try bolting to always on

Does the router have a system log?

Thank you!!

:)

But no success, I'm afraid

I changed the connection setting to Always On & when I connected the iBurst cable the router did indeed try to connect automatically, but it failed.

I don't know what OpenDNS is. There's no such option on the router, apparently and the PC is set to get the server address automatically.

Any more thoughts??

Hi there.

I have found many of the DIR range of routers require a firmware update to get them working with iBurst. The DIR 300 & DIR 400 were 2 which I encountered this problem with.

I suggest connecting directly to your PC and checking the link below to see if your firmware is up to date.

The last update was the 3rd December 2008.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
