This iBurst service is still MESS!! Still no decent reliable connection. Still no replies from iBurst support. I've sent them over 20 emails... never once did I receive a reply. They promise to send a techie around over 5 times. Never once did they actually follow through. How can these guys honestly expect to run a business like this??? Nowhere in the world except for this incompetent, country, would they get away with it.

Hmm, that could be DNS related more than iBurst related. What is your DNS set to? Can you ping 66.249.85.99

Jamie please post your location and settings as Kei said, there are many people here who will stop at nothing to help you. Good luck.

Craig

If i am correct your local pings seem very good just international are not working ?? Wierd. Jamie sorry to sound like a stupid solution but have u checked your spyware and virus's on your machine? It really did make a difference on my machine

no DNS issue

There is no DNS issue. I can access www.google.com fine now. The issue is that the service goes down every 20 mins or so. When I download applications, it starts at 50k per second then throttles down to about 4 k per second, then suddenly stops. When I access web pages, the half load. When I send emails, they sometimes just suddenly stop. When I access International websites, the service crawls to a slow.

I appreciate that you guys are trying to help, however I'm an expert in IT, so have tried everything already. I've just come to the sad conclusion that unless there are radical changes. access to the Internet in South Africa will remain an unrealisable, unaffordable dream.

its either their international or their dns that is poked. Last night at about 1:15am i was in the process of writing a post for the exact same problem.

Haha? You think WBS will get back to you? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

No one can be a IT expert, seeing as how the field is so vast even with 12 plus years experience.

I agree that WBS service sucks, everyone know thats, you can look at the other internet providers if you don't like wbs. Also , moaning about WBS doesn't help they probably are reading this thread right now and laughing there heads off, our comments generally go in one ear and out the other.

being an expert surely u have some reason why its doing that? i am not poking fun at you but would like to know what is causing this

That's a true statement. However, suffice to say that I've been heavily involved in the computer industry since 1981. I've worked as an engineer in the Silicon Valley, UK, France, etc. over an eight year period... was involved in design the SSL protocol.. develop in C++, COM, ASM, Java, .NET, ASP, JSP, etc. etc. I know my ****.

The pure simple reason is that you have a bunch of monkeys running iBurst.

wow

impressive CV there JimBob.

Although for someone with such impressive 1337 skillz it surprises me that you consider zonealarm a firewall.

never the less, lets try help you out

Please disconnect your entire setup, plug your modem into a single machine and test directly from the ,achine, swop the ethernet cable with the usb cable, maybe even try popping a linux (knoppix ; Gentoo ) Live cd into a machine, boot off it and see if you cant connect to the net and do some testing that way.

Once you are 100% certain that the fault isnt ion your side then continue to throw your toys.

I'm not siding with wbs here because I'll also admit that their support is utter crap at best however lets determine exactly where the problem lies before placing blame.

rush

Rush,

See other post other thread regarding Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm is fine for home use. If you're going to diss it, then substantiate your argument.

I don't choose my products, based on the "what's cool in the IT world" factor. When you've worked for enough development shops, you know that peoples perceptions of products boil down to marketing. The Zone Alarm team decided to go for the consumer market... had they decided to go for the enterprise, the underlying technology would be developed in much the same way.

Listen, my connection is working fine now. By as I said the problem is intermittant and has nothing to do with my local setup. Without coming across as arrogant, I am very confident of this.
