speed test 1

speed test 2
Your line speed is approximately 526.5 Kbps or 64.5 kBytes/sec

Well there you can see it in black and white.
International speeds are half that of local speeds and local speeds have reduced from 100KB/s to avg 55-65KB/s

I have an external antenna pointed at Kyalami Tower (+/- 3km away)

Signal according to iConnect = -68db (a good solid signal)

That is current iBurst performance. iBurst responses?

I have the exact same expierience latley.. local hardly ever goes above 500kb-600kb.

But my international hit 600kb yesterday, not even that late at night. And local went up to 700kb. Since then the speeds have been a bit better, but this might be a Cape Town thing.

However something has definately happened to the service in general. And something needs to be done.

I don't think it's a CT thing anymore as my speeds are downright crappy compared to what they used to be BEFORE they screwed with the tower.

We all are wasting our time complaining here since this is a "normal" SA thing as far as business is concerned, wbs are no better or worse than the rest, they are the accepted norm for what we can expect from a company in this country today.

Hmm.. Unfortuanately you're right. Now wheres that Shaun Green or whoever to sort this out. If youve got a crappy connection then its definately something on their network.. something like overselling your product and attracting more users while you leave your service to get worse and worse??

I decieded to do some of those tests and the mcafee test is flawed:

Calculation
File Size 150.005 KB
Time Elapsed 14.39

Your Speed: 150.005 KB Time Elapsed: 14.39 seconds

Strange how mine took 10 seconds longer than yours, actually it didnt take anywhere near 14 sec... something is obviously wrong there. I get the exact (to three decimals) same speed as you. And it does only work in IE.

Just so that you can atleast throw out that pathetic test result. Still your point remains valid, speeds are crap and probably getting worse, and we all know Iburst is capable of much better, we all had better connections about 3 months ago.

I did downloads last night and the speeds ranged from 400 - 600kb. Iburst... wazzzzzup wiff it?

I can't say I've noticed any significantly slow down recently. I am still downloading at speeds in excess of 100KB/s. However, I am on the newish Hyde Park basestation which I think still has a light load. I guess what you guys are experiencing is increasing congestion rather than any slow down of the Iburst network. Iburst need to keep rolling out those new stations and keeping contention low, even if that means turning away new business (not likely!).

I used to get local speed test results in excess of 1000kbps, but the best I get these days is +-700kbps. Even in Iburst's heyday international speed tests seldom got above 350kbps. But these are single threaded d/l tests, and do not prevent you maxing out the connection on multiple threaded downloads, local or international.

I was however downloading a file last night at around 10-11pm and it actually went around 80-100kb like the old days and jumped over 100 regularly. Hit 122kb tops and over 110kb alot of the time.

Was great, not shure what was going on... it was still reporting about 500-600kb even on local speed tests and this was a international multi-threaded download.
