I don't reely wanna start yet another IBurst bashing thread... just wondering...has iBursts connection technology changed?
I am looking at the latest edition of Vodaworld Spring2007, and there's a full page ad about how IBURST is "the perfect hi speed replacement for dialup"....
I quote : "IBurst differs from most other connections as it is unique in offering spatial processing connectivity - a technology that ensures reliable connections that are faster than conventional dialup, and that also prevents your connection being slowed down by other users"...
this IS unique indeed! Isnt this exactly why there has been so much negative discussions about ibursts slow speed... that there are too many users, especially when subscribers "abuse" the network by actually using all the bandwidth they paid for?
Now they are saying that their tecnology is such that other users on the network DO NOT affect your speed?
My experience is that any network is affected by the number of users on the network... so either ibursts tech has changed, or this is ... whatchacallit.... misleading advertising?
Welcome new suckers, ... or DAMN, why don't the other ISPs get the same tech :D:rolleyes:

edit... thinking about it,... i suppose there cud be another option too, like some of iburst other bum depts, maybe their advertising guys also don't now wtf is going on...

Im sure they always would have had some sort of tech like that running, maybe in software form, otherwise the whole system would probably be un-usable. There has to be a limit though... theres only so much frequency spectrum available.

plus if there was a major upgrade in technology u can bet you'd have to change your modem aswell.

btw, does anyone know what the bandwidth on an iburst tower is?

That's just a "feature" of the iBurst tech, nothing new.

Each tower has 20Mbps afaik, possibly upgrading to 100Mb some time in the future. :/

Haha sometime in the future? They have been saying that since last year when we would have gotten 2mb line as well

Thats assuming they are still in business sometime in the future.

"...that also prevents your connection being slowed down by other users"
That's just marketing BS for shaping. Fail to see where the technology part comes in lol

Not marketing speak, newspeak... :D

from 1984... :D

They gloss it over so the customer think it's unique, that his/her/its internet connection won't be adversely affected by other customers connecting to the same tower as well...

...and only later will the penny drop...

You're confusing the connection to the tower with the connection to the internet.

Unlike HSDPA, iBurst (theoretically) does not suffer the same issues of tower congestion and "cell breathing" due to the technology that it uses. This doesn't mean that they don't **** up the network connectivity later on by shaping and limiting bandwidth.
