Here is what i think , i**** is now throttling the users who have still got excess bandwidth but are trying to use it all by end of today - my speed has deteriorated to sh## since last night. I think that people who have left over bandwidth are now trying to use their cap which they should be allowed to do as it is paid for - and now I**** sees that they may lose money again and are now throttling us .

Not only is this illegal but it is also unethical !!!

Bastards

I'm capped already but decided to try finish some downloads this morning. When I try downloading some notes for university off the Wits website it downloads but nothing works while it's downloading. Webpages won't load, no MSN or Yahoo or anything else :(

i am getting sick of this **** from them , i think we should all get together and sue the bastards - i cannot blv the unethical behaviour here !!

its likely. doesnt cost them anything to do, and can save them some money - so..
(I sent a speedtest showing 3KB linespeed to a variety of IBurst personnel, got mail back saying 'You have reached your allotted b/w, please purchase more'. ie: nothing's wrong with a 3K speed. Yet shaun green says we should be getting around 5 - 7KB to play with as a minimum post-cap-basic.)

this is a disgrace - i have sent 5 messages to the helpdesk and not one reply - i am going to send them a letter by fax on monday and then i know they have got it

does anyone have Seans e mail address ???

I have also been trying to use up my bandwidth overnight, after a couple of linux isoz I now have ~600MB left.

I had problems with my downloads stalling, after several attempts from alternate servers, and suspend/resuming I eventually got them to trickle again - but multi-threaded only running at ~10kBytes/s average. I am not happy with WBS.

PS: craigsa, the FAQ thread already has email addresses, tel#z etc...;)

well i have been working on some sites as i usually do end of month and have not suspected and throttling from wbs... perhaps the network is super busy cuz people like me are now trying to use up their remaining bw.

I think you guys have got it all wrong.
Every one of you guys are trying to use the remainders of your caps?
I'm sure the forums members here aren't the only ones doing this.

Has it occured to any of you that perhaps they aren't throttling you to stop you from doing it?
Maybe their uplink is actually saturated? They dont HAVE bandwidth to give you?
Its called contention, every ISP relies on it.

im capped and the 64k is in place, no problems with speed, although, sometimes a website is unresponsive, but it's random.

it was to be expected that people will "rush" to finish their cap by the end of the month, that is why alot of people (me included) suggested to Shaun they have a "bandwidth rollover" system, and after 6 months, reset it to 0 or something. This would have effectively killed the reason people would rush to download whatever they can because they paid for the bandwidth and does not want it to go to waste.

IMO, thats why there is a slow down. But conspiracy, yes, iburst might be throttling them anyway. I can't wait for my ADSL to be installed!!!!!!! :D

craigsa, don't get all hippety hoppety over this, ADSL users have experienced the same phenomena and if iburst did do their market analysis correctly, I am sure they would have tried to avoid the dissatisfaction factor that a bandwidth cap like this is imposed will cause.

effectively they will keep on losing customers, and they'll dig their own hole. it's true that for every customer they lose, 10 other idiots sign up, but it costs them more to GET those 10 idiots signed up if people stop spreading the "good word by mouth" advertising that is so powerful.

Sentech has proven this. I'm done trying to fight.

...
Daffy, please elaborate, Noone gets a fairly much constant 64kbits/s bcos he decided to reach his cap earlier than I was able to, therefore I must not expect to get my remaining 2GB at 1Mbits/s...?

Sure, I can understand contention, but honestly how little bandwidth does WBS have that I'm limited to 10kBytes/s when I should be getting ~100kBytes/s?

Now that is freeking BS!! Well I'm capped and speeds are good 64k+ so im not too worried, allthough as noone mentioned, some websites are unresponsive at times..just gonna reload the site, and that noramlly helps..it's probablly another WBS..trick thing they are doing :(

thats why i decided to reach my cap as early as possible. But it seems WBS does not encourage downloading via their throttled system, so I have cancelled and will be switching to ADSL soon.

he he, look at me, I am using iBurst only for web browsing (as I found it useless for any other applications) and I am downloading with my old dial-up modem connected to my laptop.

It is not only faster (flat 5 KB/s) but I can also use any protocol I want (including all p2p protocols) and it is so much more reliable, I hardly ever get diconnected from Friday evening until Monday morning.

So for R50 for Infiniti call on your phone line + about R10 per weekend for the call cost + dial-up account for R70 = R160-170 per month you can download 4+ GB over without breaking your nerves :-)

i finally capped out today, more out of curiousity and am experiencing no probelms at all... except the fact that it is slower :)

In fact the 'throttled' 64K of iburst is better then mywireless 128 when that was around...
p2p seems fine... well the ones I use. msn is stable, https is fine, email is fine. all fine except slower...

me think peeps have tweaked their machines and apps to death!
