Hi guys,
Needing some inputs from anybody who's continued with iBurst after the initial 24month contract is up for renewal.... If there is a similar thread, pls direct me.
One of our directors has iBurst at home (coz still no ADSL), its been working well for them so no real reason to change now.
But the contract is now up for renewal, so what to do?
He is (started) on the 3Gb package (so gets 3.5Gb each month) with desktop modem R699pm. This is one of the old packages, so it would be better value to go to one of the new packages, either the 3Gb or 5Gb.
So, if we continue with iBurst I am a little confused as to how it will work.
The way I see it there are 2 options, go month2month, or contract. But the contract (another 24month signup) "includes modem" and cost more than the month-month, coz u pay for the modem.
But since he is already on iBurst with a desktop modem, we don't need another modem.
So going month2month seems to make more sense, and then if something better comes along, it 'should' be easier to quit.
But I understand being on the Pro packages on contract has a bit more 'benefits' than the mont2month? Like throttled, continued service after reaching the cap? Or is it only on the entry level packages.
So going month2month Pro3gb or Xtreme 5gb should be fine?

Also, going from contract, old package to month2month new packag : is it a matter of quit and sign up as new user?

If you are at the end of a 24 month contract then it may be a very good idea for you to cancel the contract and sign up a new month-to-month contract - start with a clean slate. iBurst's billing department unfortunately have been known to have a patchy memory and suddenly decide that you have money outstanding years after the fact.

You definitely want to move to one of the new packages - the prices are significantly less than the old ones. Any of the packages 1gig and up have the soft-cap option as long as you opt-out of the Pay Per Use feature.

The only reason that I could think of for going for a 24 month contract is if you (for some reason) need a new modem - the new iBurst webphone for example. If you don't then month-to-month without a doubt.

You are welcome to contact me if you need any assistance in getting this processed.

great, thanx a lot for the info.
So the Webphone is a fully functional modem?
if he decides to go contract and with webphone, can the 'old' modem be used by somebody else, on another month2month account?
what about somebody else, using the old modem on the same account, in a different area, sort of like a 'child' account, both modems sharing the available bandwidth? Or is there only 1 account per modem?
(me thinking if the bw too much for them to use at home, they can use it somewhere else too)

Ya the new packages are much cheeper and without the cost of the modem he should be saving quite a bit. I rate go month to month... things are changing so fast that you need to be able to drop your service provider within a month.

I use month-to-month got an old modem from a mate of mine. The telephone line should be coming soon and i'll swich over as soon as I can.

CeeBee, I have to add my voice to the rest. I was on a 24 month contract (direct through iBurst), and when it expired I phoned them, had the monthly amount adjusted, and continued in that vein for the next 16 months. I have now (just this month) "downgraded" to the Pro 3G package - and so far so good.

I would suggest you go with a reseller, if for nothing else than your own peace of mind. I stayed with iBurst for the username (I was told at the time I'd have to change usernames, email, etc. if I changed accounts - I know, iBurst... ;)). Don't be fooled by the WebPhone, etc. Get a good headset and use Skype (or a Skype phone - still cheaper than iCall/WebPhone).

My ZAR0.02 (at current inflation rates, who knows what it'll be worth tomorrow?)

thanx for the inputs guys.
I'll let the man decide what he wants, either way I'll be getting a bit lower on my IT budget with the reduced cost...

Wait Dont Go To Iburst Directly Use A Reseller Like Mweb Or Tradepage!!! Nargha!!!

Heed the good advice above!

I suggest you acquire the package via Tradepage or MWeb so as to circumvent the iBurst billing department and should you require technical assistance you do not need to rely on iBurst's call center.

Regards

M
