Has anyone been having trouble reaching out to the Internet on iburst this week? I have not been able to connect for 2 days, now.

And when I can connect this is what I get:

Latest poll

So its not surprising that iB didn't do well in the latest MyADSL poll.

lost my cool

I just completely lost my cool with the iburst support guys. I feel sorry for them, but when we get this kind of service, sparks start flying.

richard

I want to use Iburst for surfing and email. That's it. But you can't do it.

My iBurst experience is generally good except for the occasional problem. Don't do much p2p. At least it's much better (and much cheaper) than my 64k diginet connection a couple of years back.

Iburst doesn't give hassles to me, i download at full speeds aswell.
You can't use P2P nor torrents so forget about it. If you want to use IBURST for that.
well alot of people using p2p would disagree with you oh and torrents are p2p

my speeds (if you can call it that) for the last couple of days are a damn disgrace and the support (if u can call it that) Do absolutely F'all !!

Well done Ipoo

can forget about online gaming, as i discovered a bit to late, future iburst customers take note!!

The iBurst system is a good system in general and as far as I'm concerned the main problem is WBS and it's lack of support, eg helpdesk have people that are not qualified for the work they do or rather what they supposed to do.
I guess in general you could say WBS sucks because of non qualified staff and the greed to make as much as they can for doing as little as posible.

On the good side I have not had many problems with my connection, and in general it is as good as I expected, and besides the normal browsing, email and downloading, online games work well for me even with international games.

I think it all depends how you have your connection setup, and if you have a good signal. I do not have an external antenna either and I am about 1km from the base station.

Have to admit that the past few days it has been a bit slow with higher pings, but then it's been raining quite alot in CT.

Its general knowledge that Iburst is NOT meant for online play.
Infact I dont know what iburst is actually meant for
Surfing the internet and checking mail... wahoo

gaming is only good when pings are low so no its not meant for gaming, it doesn't mean gaming is out of the question but FPS's will only be good sometimes, however less resource hungry games will be OK, but if you get broadband for gaming don't get iBurst.

Slimothy, I guess I must be one of the lucky iBursters then, since I have good fps and low pings most the time with online games such as CS, BF2 and EQ2.

All of those games are quite resource hungry yet I find that they run smoothly most the time.

Decotey, as far as "general knowledge that iburst is not meant for games" I do not agree with that statement, and all it could be is setup, location and on how much demand is on the BS.

MrH, could you report some of your fascinating ingame ping-times for CS, BF2, and EQ2 please?

I think it really boils down to whether you want to use iBurst as a professional gaming platform or not. From my experience, for the average amateur-want-pro-gaming/pro gamer iBurst is not even thinkable as a platform.

well thats exactly what I mean, it's not ALL of the time is it. The whole reason any wireless service is not great for gaming is because the pings fluctuate even if you have a great connection, so for resource hungry and fast paced games like the FPS's it's not ideal, at least not as ideal as a fixed line with sub 20 or even sub 10ms ping times. My connection is brilliant, great speeds and pretty stable but the pings only go as low as 50ms to a local server or in the day they'll alternate every second between about 70ms and 150ms and there are times when it will go to 300 - 1500ms for short periods. I'm not sure if you've played on ADSL but thier ping times are much much lower and I've even seen better pings to international servers.

I'm not saying it never works out or you'll never get to play your CS source with iBurst but I am saying that if you were to play on iBurst you would not get the consitency gamers like, something like WoW I don't see too many problems with but let me put it this way, I wouldn't enter any of those gaming league tournaments that pay money to winners with iBurst.

In my experience gamers are all about performance, how high can thier resolution be, how many frames per second, how low are the pings and iburst even by the creators Kyocera's admission... is not meant for gaming.

So that's where I was coming from, I would still tell any avid gamer getting iBurst mainly for gaming to rather save thier pennies for ADSL, whether they were in an area where iBurst could offer them a great connection or not.

didnt you write a while back that on the Kyocera's web site they state that this technology is capable of a stable 40ms???? Something we are not getting (actually i had it untill this month :(), but that 40ms is an attractive ping for gammers.

it is never too late to cancel your iBurst and get real connectivity like ADSL :-)

also ADSL is cheaper now, both in terms of upfront cost and monthly cost!

and most importantly ADSL works for everything, everybody and any time! not just for few "chosen" people, like slimothy for example ... :-)
