Hi everyone,

A friend of mine just a got a brand new systems with Vista x64 as OS. The problem he's got now that the Vista drivers on the IBurst website is x32 only, although it doesn't state anything on their website.

Is there any other generic drivers out there to support vista x64? Would be a waste to spend R 20 000 on top class system to get stuck with a ISP that doesn't support x64.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Oh.. forgot to mention, he is using the "Desktop User Terminal - Newer versions" as "modem" as stated on their website.

If he can afford a top class system, tell him to get a top class ISP...

Sorry, couldn't resist - no remedy as far as I'm aware of, best to switch to Vodacom or make use of a router.

“They advise that there is no ETA on the iBurst Vista 64bit drivers”

Thnx Michael.

I googled and noticed that this is a problem in Australia and in New Zealand as well.

Unfortunately he choose the ISP, I choose and built the PC. Pitty the new iburst modem don't have an ethernet port. Maybe he must ask them for the older modem, apparently that had a ethernet port.

Thnx again

Both the old and new desktop modems have an ethernet port, he must have the USB only modem. You can get the desktop modem which is slightly more expensive but probably gets better signal.

Ahh thnx for that. I will let him know to get the desktop modem.

tell him not to get his account debited every month!

No please don't do that to him - a Telkom line would do far better...

My ADSL line went down twice this last week, once after a power cut and again for no real reason over the weekend. It could only be rebooted on their side (all they had to do ) by Monday morning.

That's already more down time than I had on iBurst for about a year. The speed is much better though, but still.. having to phone Telkom is a guaranteed 2 hours waiting on the phone, and then when they will fix your problem no one knows.

If you have a good enough iBurst connection I'm not sure if I'd move over so quickly any more. (EDIT: but I probably would in the end)

thats exactly the reason i keep iburst - not always fast but i will admit - iburst downtime doesnt really exist.

I use iburst ethernet with Vista x64.

Just create a PPPoE connection with login details. Connect directly with ur modem though (ethernet).

I get very good speeds. Relatively happy.

I think Vista 64 has a compatibility mode for running 32 drivers. Worth a shot maybe...but it could be unstable.

You can't install the iburst drivers on Vista 64, doesn't let you into the installation

I am experiencing problems using the Ethernet connection (Well every now and again).

For some reason, Vista 64 does not see the modem sometimes, and I am forced to re-boot / unplug, rinse repeat etc ... but other times its fine.

A friend suggested I connect the modem to a Route and that will resolve that issue... any comments on this?

Regarding iBurst Vs Telkom ... iBurst FTW :p I get a good connection using an omni directional antenna and not to mention not having to deal with Telkom is a pleasure ... either way, my exchange does not have DSL :p

I am happy as long as I can play World of Warcraft its all good ... just need to get my modem from dropping sometimes ... (Old desktop modem BTW).

Regards,

For those experiencing the same problem I have been having, I have recieved a possible solution from iBurst which you might want to try out ... I will quote it below....

"Thank you for the feedback. Please find the settings to stabilize your connection.

start, programs, accessories, rightClick command prompt, click run as administrator

commands are:

netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces to display the current settings

netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Network Connection" mtu=1352 store=persistent

restart pc.
