Hi Everyone

I hope some can help with the following :)

My Mom stays about 5km away from me and I would like her to use my Iburst connection, the folks at iburst said this is no problem at all but I would need to setup some sought of VPN / LAN and then referred me to nerds on site - now I dont really want to spend money on somthing I could do myself - his there anyone who could please give me some sought of direction.

Thanks for your help in advance

wait a second - to share your iburst connection through a VPN, she will need internet access herself - whats the point then?

the only other way to do it via wireless, then she doesn't need to pay for an internet connection herself and share yours, and that makes better sense to me.

webace, you're going to be spending some money, no getting past that.

The only way to get connected to your mom's place will be with a wireless network link. That means a router at each end, connected to a directional antenna.

With that setup you will both be on the same network and you can share your Internet connection.

Budget in the region of R2000 - R2500 for the hardware. You can then set the thing up yourself.

aha that makes allot of sense, I dont mind spending money but well who I spend my money with is another issue.

Thanks for this Tip monkey it makes allot of sense, I was think of getting her own iburst modem for R1800 anyway so a extra couple of hundred I dont think is too much of a train smash :)

Thank you for the tip DagegeN:)

Telkom costs my mom R500 pm which is just crazy for what she needs to do
I will definately check out www.jawug.za.net

how about this?

http://www.hamachi.cc/

Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private networking application.

In other words Hamachi is a program that allows you to arrange multiple computers into their own secure network just as if they were connected by a physical network cable.

Hamachi is fast, secure and simple.

Calico, for that to work, both computers need to be on the Internet.

Is there any legalities involved with the wireless setup as suggested above ?

no one can give a definite answer to this not even ICASA as the "police"
so just do it
new legislation says it may not require a license

Hi Skydog

Thanks for the info - I am in Durban also, so may look into becoming part of the
durban comminuty wireless network :)

Is there any idea if this can be done via the iburst base station ?

No iburst is a different technology to wifi which is what we use.

You in Durban! Great send me a PM or email me with where you are and you might be able to hop onto the DWC network and VPN through that to share a net connection.

let me also where your mom is?
