Ekhaatvensters and the many others that commented, thnx for the help.

I'll let u know how long the WAIT is for ADSL. I reckon im gonna go driving around and look for a technician on a pole and kidnap him.

Later dudes..

 You actually still get them???? My word! :D

iburst vs adsl

The new modem cost reduction has not been included ... I posted this earlier but this is a more appropriate placement

Like I said to Mike Smit, as soon as you allow the sh*t (Telscum) into your house, you're making them even richer and choking the people trying to make a difference.

From the day I came back from the UK (2003), I refused to pay R1000 for a crippled 3GB ADSL line. Must say, it was tempting a few months ago, when I moved to an 'ADSL area' and discovered my Samsung ADSL modem in a box, but I persisted and stayed with ol' faithful - iBurst.

And that's how I like it, my iBurst modem next to my pc, my MTN mobile in its cradle - and nothing Telscum in my house.

Iburst is not good for DLing ...and adsl is... iburst connection speeds depends on where you are and what time it is

adsl has none of the above ussues

Iburst beats ADSL hands down in downloading, and no offense to Aspersie, his not to clued up on the current ADSL situation were 79% of ADSL users are experincing seriously degraded services

ADSL is better if you want low latency for things like gaming and voip. Otherwise, Iburst is quicker.

how many times on this thread does people say iburst gets this then that maybe it will maybe it won't (speeds)

atleast as far as i know adsl has none of these above issues...

And 59.6% of all statistics are made up. Seriously man, 79% of ADSL users? Maybe 79% of Web Africa's ADSL users... remember, the world is not just WA.

Well the only reason DSL is quick for gaming or VOIP is coz the entry points mostly terminate inside their (Telkom/SAIX's) Network and I'd say most popular gaming servers are hosted inside SAIX as well.....so it like sitting at your office having a structured network *DSL customer's connecting over the same infrstraucture*with all the servers sitting on the same 'LAN' things are bound to be faster,we can argue the same for 3G,iBurst and sentech....latency to anything inside any of these carrier's networks is damn quick....when you connecting outside of it.....then the agreements they have with the true global data carriers will shine through!

I've had quite a few people complain their DSL is slow when connecting to gaming servers outside of Telkom's network.....Hahahaha.....but oh no....most of the time is quite fast....coz your host server ain't far away inside the same network!......bottom line DSL is not what it should be because of greed.....the technology is good.....the implementation sucks!Telkom are holding back.....I'm sure it's been said millions of times.....

Hahah Isn't web africa using IS's DSL over Satellite link......???? coz I know IS conceded that their DSL which was running over Satellite had latency issues...... until recently with the addition of DSL over Fibre was their service slightly problematic

Here's a valuable piece of information if your iBurst doesn't utilise it's capability of reaching 1Mbps while downloading maybe the site you DL'ing from is congested or can only provide you with that set speed....so....go download more stuff.....that's what I do if a download is running at 24KB.....I multitask DL'ing, that is essentially what iBurst is ....the ability to receive data at upto 1Mbps....note is doesn't say one piece fo data....so I for instance open 51 tabbed websites in Firefox.....*I do* and there's my iBurst running at 1Meg....ITweb may be providing me with a throughput of 7KBps there;s simply 121KBps to play with....that's what the other 50 sites do...they fill the capacity.......it is a 1meg pipe you just need to understand how to actually use it!

It's like driving on a 3 lane freeway! What are you gonna take up all the space with your very wide kia picanto........duh!....but does it make sense for 5 cars to drive behind eachother on a empty wide freeway......for instance....utilise the spare lanes....that's how I'm hoping everyone is using all these products coz seriously some of my customers tell me :'this website opens so slow there's no change from modem to iBurst,it's the same speed!'

....well becoz the site is hosted with some web hosting company who has a 64k diginet *and this is SA it happens* you only gonna get what that 64k can give you......lol

Same goes for DSL same goes for 3G.....See I am diplomatic......:D

To support what was said about. Why not use a download manager such as Getright. This allows you to start multiple downloads for the same file at the same time. GetRight can split up a file and download several pieces at the same time, which can really help get the most speed out of your fast connection.

You can have, for example, 3 lanes of traffic, 1 lane for the 1st third of the file,
2nd lane for the middle chunk, and the 3rd lane for the last third. When its done the download manager joins the parts together. Obviously you can see the benefits in time saved downloading by doing this!

Getright in this example can also look for mirrors, but its ability to download your file in seperate chunks and join them all together I find to be very powerful and fast.

Look for the section on "Segmenting" in this link http://www.getright.com/fastest.html

HAHAHAHA have you read the ADSL sub-section????

I've been sub-forum browsing since I've been here and given so much consideration to ADSL...

I've read the problems with Iburst, I've also read a large portion of ADSL and as most users have mentioned ADSL is currently getting degraded services...
People in ADSL sub-forums kept saying they want to leave their crap ADSL service, Same went to Iburst but at this point in time I don't see much problems except the Cap of Death and a couple 1-3 hour downtimes.

iburst started off awesome until they implemented the cap then things went downhill and customer focus went out the window, Telkom ADSL? They don't have a customer service!

Now IBurst has changed CEO and they are striving to improve the customer service and so far from personal experience IBURST is about 100% better than telkom.

Anyhow you can enjoy your ADSL I will read your comments in the ADSL sub-forum :D

I have a full iBurst signal and its rock solid... In the 3 weeks ive had it there has only been one signal drop

I still say ADSL is better but you have to deal with Telkom... and wait long.

a plug in the wall is always better than wireless routing.. but I prefer iBurst as I can pick up n leave whenever.

haha.. I would think that he is refering to a wireless technology, not wireless lan. As in cable or fibre is better than Wireless broadband because of pings, reliability and stability.

Not very important... so mind explaining how you get 1mb speeds with two lights on your UTD BroadbandICT? Is that constant (relatively) and do you have good pings aswell?
