iBurst vs CellC

So I finally returned the CellC device. I just wasnt getting the signal strength I was looking for, and disconnects on TF2 were just getting plain annoying. Fantastic fr broswing and youtube was brilliant, but I'm afraid the combination of TF2 disconnects and the insane amount of bandwidth I'll be needing for steams black friday (and coming xmas) puts iBurst ahead.

Returning the device was a pain. Don't fool yourself with "with in 7 days for any reason" slur put on CellC's website. I spent 1 hour 30min at dion wired trying to convince cellc that I didnt want the product. From "can we help you set it up" though to "oh, you are within 7 days, please hold" for 45mins... and then dion wired was told to dial different numbers and started to go in circles (asked to dial the previous number). Ultimately the dion wired manager gave up with cellC and refunded me using dion wired credit.

iBurst 5GB with 128 VAS

the 128 vas, because it is free and unthrottled bandwidth between 00:00 and 8:00, gives me more than 20GB a month, and for the price it just edges iBurst to better price per MB.

iBurst 5GB + Vas: Total usage between 20 and 40GB a month: Just below R700pm
CellC 3G 4x5GB (20GB): R750pm

Crap. I just checked the Cell C coverage map and Weltevreden Park is in a poor signal area, so that sucks for me....

There is an issue with Cell C. If your signal is good, you just don't realise how quickly you can finish your cap :p

I gotten over 10mb/s after hours.

These speed tests were done within a few seconds of each other from the same pc to the same speedtest server.

---

After the last nightmarish week of dismal iburst (non)performance I couldn't afford to not have a stable connection so i picked up the speedstick.

I'm not dropping iburst tho since it's still cost effective for large transfer where speed is not the highest priority.

It is sad that it's necessary to have backups to whats supposed to be a mature, stable technology. At least 7 days of 30 I proxy my traffic through our servers in germany because of the dns/connection problems, that I could overlook. But last weeks total outage was unnacceptable as far as SL's go.
