I know that iBurst and WiFi work on quite different frequencies - but when you put two pieces of radio equipment close enough together you are bound to have problems with spurious frequencies causing interferance.

So how close - in theory and in practice - can you place a iBurst UTD and a WiFi AP without any noticable problems??

in theory right on top of each other...as you said they work on different frequencies.

in practice - try and see. I will be setting up an AP next to an UTD next week maybe i should run tests.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is!

why does a doctor have a "practice"? guess that is why the patients have to be patient.

I have my wireless router, which is an AP and connects my PC to Iburst as wel as to a latop, right next to my UTD. About 5-10cm away from each other, if that. I dont think there is really any interferance that goes on there.

I think I'm about as close as you are going to get without putting them ontop of each other, so I doubt htere are any problems. The poeple who made Iburst would have thought of that.

Mine too. They practically ontop of eachother....in the roof somewhere.

I stuck a WRT54g and a iBurst UTD together using double sided sticky tape and I havent had a problem... but I can see the iBurst radio playing havoc with CPU cards, as the UTD can radiate to 4 watts.

to give my 50 cents worth.

Eventhough the two units are on different frequencies, they could potentialy interfere with each other due to power output of each and bandwidth lobe size.

So in theory to avoid interfernce the two antennas must be at least a quartere wave length away from each other.

so what is the wave length of each unit.
wavelength λ (in metres) = 300 / frequency (in megahertz).

there fore for WiFi: λ = 300/2400 = 0.125 metres, now take a quarter of that and you get 3cm

and to check with iBurst:

λ = 300/1790= 0.168 metres, and quarter wavelength = 4cm.

So therefore to be safe the units must be 4cm apart.

wow.. no wonder your the i-guru.

Doubt it would even matter if you did put them about 3cm or less close to each other.

Yes I am the "GURU" :D

and you are probably right, that it won't make any difference putting the units close together, but you never know, sometimes it does...

Well i 2 used my wireless router with my utd,No problems so far!:D

I have a wireless router connected to iburst via ethernet, about 30 cm apart. Another AP about 3 metres away, and then 1 PC and 2 notebooks (plus the occassional PSP and PocketPC), all in about a radius of 4 meters, without any problems
