So this is into your (Win) 'doze box on USB, from which you make your 'net connection?

I connect my Xbox 360 to my ethernet card. For the live of me I cannot get connected to Xbox Live.
And this is straight machine (xbox) to machine (PC)? Oh, what 'doze are you running?

Rationale behind my questions: if you're connecting via USB, it *has* to be from a PC which then means that you'll have to run ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in order for your Xbox to get a 'net connection too - that's part 1.

Part 2 is the cabling: if you're connecting straight from device to device, and not through a hub/switch, you will likely require a crossover cable as straight-through is unlikely to work ..at least, going from memory.

Then part 3: Xbox setup. This comes down to its connection setup menu, where you're looking for something that equates to DHCP, a requirement for ICS to work.

That said, I'm going from networking first principles; I don't have an Xbox or ready access to one so YMMV following my input here... :p

@ Myles :

Just got my crossover cable today (thanx, again, SharkBait). I can't seem to open the links you have posted :(

I've decided to first get the two machines (PC & XBOX) to see each other, but this has not happened yet.

Will continue trying and post further feedback here.

hey Xen

long time no chat

ok, you seem to know what you're talking about. i decided that since getting my toy in dec last year i wuz gonna try and connect it to my laptop. now they expect me, someone who knows but not much about computers to link the two - oh-my-hat *exasperated sigh*!!

so i guess y'all are gonna be hearing from me alot tonight and possible over the next few days.

i can see this is gonna be frustrating.

ok, so whut's a crossover bra...i mean cable. what you're saying is i need to get one of dems first before i even contemplate trying to connect tonight. why don't they friggen include it in the box if they know peeps is gonna need it?

aaaaand i'm guessing the fact that i have vista is gonna make me problems even more worsterer!

AWW thanks smooth!

see this is why i love this MyBB. peeps are so helpful.

MWAH!!

ok, well here i goes. i'm gonna switch everything off and connect the ethernet cable. hold my legs, i'm goin' in.

Hey BfXXX, long time now smell.

Did you have any luck? You can also mozie on over here and check other hints and tricks.

If not successful, send me a PM.

Hey Chick-a-dee

Thanks so much, I'll print that out and try tonight.

So how has your Xbox gaming experience been? By itself it's a groovy li'l toy, i can only imagine (for now - LOL) all hooked up and signed on to Xbox live!! WOW!! :D

Hi guys.

The Network team have just been in contact.

Solution is close.

Apologies.

As soon as they give the OK to me you will be the first to be informed.

Cheers

Shaun

No, technically it still works, but my network port is bust, so I don't wanna play with it.

Sowwy :(

I managed to find a few videos on You Tube that give step by step (more or less anyway-my fave is one by bunnykill) on how to set up, this was in the wee hours and i was too tired to now go and try this. So i'll log on again tonigh to try it out. *sigh* but this machine shall not conquer me!!

Then there's my other option - XBOX 360 FOR DUMMIES (yes there's actually one of these books out there :o)

i know you said to pm you if i need help (for which i am grateful :)), but i don't wanna be buggin' ya all the time. so i'll give this a try first and you can keep your sanity ;).
