What is the point of this website?

The links to "What is it"; "Coverage" and "Get it to work" do not work and the rest is pretty much what has already been discussed here in great depth and detail.

Am I missing something?

hmmm it looks like someone took a bold step into a unoficial "support / troubleshoot" page for i-busted-my-brains-today AKA iBurst

And i must congratulate this guy / group of people that is willing to help their fellow busted mates out. all hail for those who are busy with this site. :p

EDIT: i am sure this is like a hellkom.co.za site for iburst. if thats the case im with this guy all the way !!!!!
we need to remind iburst that we are the important part of their business .. and not the other way around.

oh and RVFmal stop being so negative .. " if that was your intention " :p

Not being negative, but when statements such as this

The coverage maps on iBurst website suck!
That's a fact! Welcome to our site. Here you will find TRIED AND TESTED, ACCURATE maps of where the basestations are and the kinds of speeds we got where we did installations. We are THE ONLY SOURCE of verified maps. Beware of imitations!

are posted, one does expect them to actually live up to their claim otherwise people will come, see what is not there and not bother to return.

I will support them without doubt as long as what they are trying to achieve is factual and of use. At the moment it is not.

ah yeah i see your point.

but lets try and support it and maybe give it some time :p ... Rome wasnt built in a day :p hehehe

Am busy building the site, it belongs to me.

I do not appreciate all the dissing of it, especially since I have still to add content  I am short for time at the moment, but it's easier to diss me

hey i better be getitng brownie points for defending your "project" :D

not that we are dissing you .. we appreciate the effort you are doing. so relax ... stop reading the forums and build the site

I haven't been able to get to the site - not rendering, so I assume it has been taken offline.

While I sympathise with JTech that it is difficult for JTech to swallow criticism about a work in progress [as I understand it], the site was accessible on the internet, and only natural that people would eventually visit, and have something to say about it.

Therefore I cannot in good conscience do more than ask forumites to undertsnad that that site is JTech's work in progress and go easy. Perhaps JTech could elaborate on the purpose that the site is intended to serve, and take it from there...?

It must be down for now, but if you want any input or help with making it from the forum... well I guess you'll just ask anyway.

I cant wait to see those coverage maps, I guess the Iburst ones arent that great.. but have you been to Cape Town and all around the country to test the signal, or will it just be for JHB/Pretoria?

Okay I can get to the site now.

I took a look at the front page, and I'd just like to ask, is this true:

Ibursters.za.net said:
Poor International Throughput
This problem is due to TELKOM. If your speed test results on iburst.co.za are excellent and the speed you get testing on internetfrog.com are abysmal, direct all blame at SA #1 hated telecoms monopoly, TELKOM. Please support hellkom.co.za to put a stop to the monopoly!! The problem is due to a Telkom link between international destinations and Verizon in Gallo Manor, Johannesburg. Verizon is iBurst's ISP and all tickets on their site WILL AFFECT YOU!

I'm not trying to be negative about the website or diss it, but rather help it be accurate. I thought that Verizon was not iBurst's only international carrier and im pretty shure placing *all* the blame on Telkom is unreasonable. I even saw on the iburst incident report that they use C&T Cable (or something liek that) for at least aportion of their european connectivity, if not all of it.
SO I dont think blaming soley Telkom and Verizon can be right. Are Verizon really Ibursts "ISP"?

Once again, just trying to clarify so the site can be accurate, not trying to diss it. Sorry if that part of the site is old or not going to be used.

That site will be down.... I am trying to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!
That site runs off my iBurst connection
Thanks to current ****-up on iBurst network, Dynamic DNS is broken since 8pm, am moving to alternative DynDNS to work-around. 8 hour delay!

196.30.31.193 and 196.46.70.1 are the biggest PIECES of **** DNS servers ever!!!!!!!!!

to see my sites use the following DNS servers courtesy of datapro

196.41.0.10
196.41.0.11

I see, but im shure they arent Ibursts sole providers, but I guess if they go down then international wil definatley be degraded, so the site is correct, kind of. Good enough, at least it is spreading the anti-telkom word.

Thanks for the site though, its a great recourse for newbies to Iburst, and the coverage maps benefit all. Hope you will be having the exact locations on there, if you can get to all of them.

Site will be down for next 2 days unfortunately

My DNS hosting is broken

I would appreciate help with this site yes. To be more to the point about the maps. I run an IT business from home, I supply iBurst to my customers. I don't do the resell bit, Jakes on this forum does that for me (my cashflow is currently a bit of a pain and I cannot risk becoming an official reseller unless I have a bit more capital), I go to customer's premises and I install the UTD and router, all that jazz. I did this on the odd occasion until things got hectic in July and I started getting very busy and the installations picked up and I did more site tests and installations.

As examples, the coverage maps for Roodekrans and Honeydew are wrong. Why? In the case of Roodekrans, I LIVE THERE and my UTD and signal level measurements show a different picture. The maps for Honeydew show light green for Eagle Canyon, which is BULLSH1T because on the far ridge of that complex(where there is very light green) I did an installation for a customer. I get -66dBm and a whopping 1.06Mbit/sec download speed, even better than what I get in Roodekrans with me living practically on top of the tower.

My maps should be accurate to the tee, because, I HAVE BEEN THERE AND DID AN ACTUAL INSTALLATION ON THE SPOT!

I have done successful installations in:

Auckland Park
Roodekrans
Eagle Canyon (Honeydew)
Morningside

Since the above are all for businesses, I have opportunity to check them regularly, as I get called out to resolve other issues aswell.

As for Verizon being iBurst's ISP, they are! All outgoing traffic goes via them and it's the same each time I check! The other people mentioned are people providing them with carriers! We all know Telkom is providing the links between basestation and head office datacentre and there's a possibility someone else is doing this too, particularly peering links. But, the actual traffic to international and local destinations goes via Verizon. I am going to post a trace on my site when it's back up and you can see for yourself.

None of us are dissing you in the least. I am sure we all believe that what your are trying to achieve is very useful.

However, to put up an incomplete site and then post a link to it on this forum is not entirely clever, especially since nowhere on the site (or on this forum) was it stated that it was a work in progress.

Just some food for thought and think of it as constructive critsism and not us trying to detract from what you are trying to achieve.

Good luck and hope those maps are up shortly.
