For those of you using iCal for appointments and tasks, I am sure you would have noticed that there is no specification that the time booked is actually free (Birthday reminders) or busy (meeting with the Boss).

This becomes a problem for say a HTC TyTN user, as the ringing profile is automatically adjusted according to meeting times (a birthday reminder will be synced as busy, hence the phone will be on vibrate for the whole day).

Does anyone know if there is a patch/mod/plugin for iCal to facilitate free/busy scheduling?

Thanks

Dunno - but interesting question. I guess the visual indication isnt enough?

I use google calendar for my calendar and have a subscription to that calendar in iCal.

The problem is that I use MarkSpace Missing Sync for my TyTN ... Entourage is configured with an Exchange account, and a local calendar and address book. When using the Entourage plugin in Missing Sync, it takes your default e-mail account (which is Exchange). All my personal appointments (birthdays etc) are housed on the local Calendar, but Missing Sync only syncs with the Exchange profile.

So what I am doing is syncing Entourage local to iCal and Address Book, and I use the relevant plugins in Missing sync, and that is where the Free/Busy problem comes in

So couldnt you also loo for a plugin for entourage to insure no conflicts before it heads out to iCal?

That won't make any difference ... Entourage is correctly flagged as either busy/free ... iCal does not make that distinction, so everything goes into iCal as busy, and in turn to my TyTN as busy
