What do you think of iCare? Have you had any good/bad experiences?
 
Do you mean Apple Care? :confused:
 
Yip think he means Apple Care.. and on that topic - can you buy Apple Care from any country?? Or do you have to buy it from SA..
 
As far as I am aware Apple hardware has 1 year international warranty (but you never know). BUT Apple does have very good service (I have heard)... so you might just get lucky ;)
 
I'm talking about the option at the iStores or at Digicape (i think this is called 'Extended Warrenty')

ps. i though this was a ZA forum.

Yep iStores in SA don't sell Apple Care, they sell iCare. It is basically the same thing, only you can only use it in SA. Apple Care is international, but I think SA Apple doesn't recognise it due to it not really being Apple in SA? not sure about that last part.

I have some experience here. I bought an Australian product with a 3 year Apple Care extended warranty. I had to have something minor attended to at Core's Technical Workshops in Jet Park. Core honor the Apple Care warranty but do not offer the 3 year phone in technical service.( they are so close to me I do not need the phone in side)

I am going to try and get a 3 year Apple Care warranty for the iMac I recently purchased from Core when I am in Australia in May. I'll collect an iPad 2 at the same time if they have stock .
The Apple Care cover is the cheaper option.

Thats good to know, its quite a bit cheaper overseas.

You should have a Apple Care voucher and it must be registered with Apple. One can also check on the internet if your Apple Care is registered.
 
It's crazy, if you purchased an apple product it should be attached with an international warranty irrespective of where in the world it was purchased. I mean I haven't seen a fake McBook.

You do have an international warranty, but AppleCare / iCare is an extended warranty plan.

I don't have any voucher...When I check on the internet though it says I am covered under applecare...

That seem fine Pooky. It it easy to check the dates on the same Apple site by entering the serial number. You should enquire from your source who brought in your laptop as to the whereabouts of all the documentation. You may need it if a a query arises.

As I said in the above postings the service from Core is fine. I do not have iCare but Apple Care which Core honors as far as the Hardware are concerned. I think one must just way up the cost of the additional 2 years cover. The only thing I miss out on here with Apple Care is the "3 years Phone Support". But how often is that required. Mac's are expensive to repair.
So it all boils down to a value for money thing.
