ICASA cell cost hearings delayed

[Johannesburg, 17 March 2006] - The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) hearings to investigate SA's high cellphone tariffs have been delayed.

The hearings – aimed at investigating the high cost of mobile calls, and why the introduction of increased competition in the form of Cell C into the marketplace has not significantly reduced call costs – were originally planned for late March or early April.

“Our intent now is to hold them no later than the end of May,” says ICASA councillor Tracy Cohen.

Oh for pete's sake the answer is obvious do they really need an answer? The fact that cell companies were forced to go through Telkom for call routing until Feb 2005 is the biggest reason.

Maybe when cellphone companies go to them with price increases like cellc just has, they shouldn't approve the increase.
Why waste the publics money on a hearing you already know the answer to.

This leads to great confidence in whether anything at all will happen with the ADSL hearings
