ICASA comes under fire

Opposition parties today where outraged by ICASA's exoneration of the SABC in any wrongdoing on their part in the early broadcast of ANC election campaign advertising.

This has bought under suspicion the integrity and objectivity of ICASA.

As slaves to the telecom industry we have know this for far too long. It's good that ICASA was forced to show its true colours in the political arena. Maybe now something will be done about the shocking monopolies in this country.

We should try and avoid politics here and stick to pure reason if possible.

Ezanolin, I understand the fact that your are upset by ICASA's conduct (as am I) but we need to steer clear of rhetoric. This is an issue for South Africans to address as a nation. It will be a pretty lonely and difficult fight if we (techies) try to change things on our own. This statement means nothing to the group as it relates to broadcasting and not ADSL. If you find another example where our freedom to use technology is unfairly impeded by ICASA then we can have a "flame" fest of note! Bare in mind that this post is just my opinion and other forum members are free to disagree.

Noone, there is no excuse for bad policy! Everything has happened before; therefore you would be a fool to accept it purely on the grounds of re-occurrence.

Just a thought…

Well so far it seems ICASA is in bed with Telkom and the SABC, both of which are government companies. ICASA should go the same way as Telkom cos they haven't actually ever done anything positive except last year when they rapped Telkom on the knuckles because they raised their prices by 2% too much or something silly. That was probably a setup so it could look like the punks at ICASA are actually serving a cause and not wasting money.

The plot thickens, gentlemen, and there's not much we can do about it. Unless we start the CRT campaing - Car &gt; Rope &gt; Telkom box... []
