ICASA concerned about MultiChoice JSE listing

ICASA said it has noted with concern the listing of the MultiChoice Group on the JSE, despite an outstanding complaint against the company before its Complaints and Compliance Committee.

This complaint was filed by Khulisa Social Group on 23 January 2019, which argued that the listing would result in a contravention of the Electronic Communications Act.

How's the complaint about licenses and the control thereof relevant to MC's listing? Is the complainant saying that the licenses are being transferred to another without authorization? If so, then ICASA should have the right to veto this and I hope that they do so.

Also, MC arguing that the CCC don't have no jurisdiction over future events is disingenuous. MC knew that they were going to list on 28 February and knew this at their meeting on 18 February with the CCC. The fact that MC went ahead with the listing even though they knew there's an issue with their license/s is beyond arrogant.

They're reaching. Telkom has changed hands. Vodacom has changed hands. Cell C has changed hands. Iburst has changed hands. In none of those cases was there a contravention. The only thing changing here is company ownership but the license is still held by MC. This is probably some group who tried but failed to get a BEE deal out of it again.
