Hi guys, I recently purchased some stuff from gearbest. The package is currently at durban parcel centre, and I just received a postcard from SARS, the note on the bottom says that I need to provide an ICASA permit? Whats the issue with this, because the one thing i know is that an ICASA permit is almost impossible to get. any advice guys? I purchased a Nexbox A95X, two remote controls and a multi plug.

The thing is, it makes no sense. Both WiFi and BT follow international standards. As far as i know, thats the only Wireless comms on the a95x. Is there no solution to getting the parcel? I think the problem might actually be with the multiplug its a wifi enabled plug with timers

It's the implementation that counts. Radio signals have a nasty habit of interfering with each other

ICASA are only hitting on this because it affects a cadre somewhere like SABC or Multichoice.

They do f-all of their other functions IMO.

No they are not. ICASA is obliged to administer and implement on behalf of South Africa, ALL the commitments South Africa has made in respect of the ITU Radio Regulations, nothing more and nothing less.

Part of that is to either test ALL radio devices for complying with the ITU radio regulations as well as our own regulations, OR, recognising tests done by labs in other countries, IF they are presented to ICASA for evaluation.

It has been an on going battle for many years to get Customs and DTI to synchronise their procedures to prevent the importation of products not complying with local standards.
In the past, it was "legal" to import anything you like but not use it. Now with all the ducks in a row, the importation of non-approved devices is being blocked at source.

A tough World when systems are put in place to force compliance with laws and regulations hey!

See this post for links to some of the ICASA pages dealing with these matters.

This seems to be a regular occurrence with the PO. Last time with the strike one of my packages got sent back marked "prohibited." Seems they don't pick up their stuff it gets sent to the warehouse after a week where someone starts inspecting them under their own rules. It's a lucky packet really. Most of the time resending something resolves the issue.

Is there anything that I can do to retrieve my package without having to deal with ICASA? Is there something that i can explain to the guys I'm supposed to contact, to help my case?

Have it resent? I would rather pay again for postage than explain anything to customs.
