ICASA report has huge technical flaws !!!

As long as Telkom's keep telling the media they are in a competitive market, they are idiots.

Like I said before, most of us won't mind paying the monthly line rental, just not as much as what we are now.
Also, saying that maintenance and other costs must be considered in the overall cost of ADSL is fine by me. But since Telkom wants to keep those costs secret it doesn't inspire confidence. Since they won't say how much it costs, we'll just have to assume they pay the same as other companies in other countries. Who by the way have no problem releasing their cost information even their contention ratios.

I can imagine that there is a certain amount of capital expenditure when installing ADSL. But, then charge the client a single amount or give the client the oppurtunity to pay for his/her part of the capital expenditure over a predetermined term.

Why would we have to continue to pay for the capital side of things for the rest of our lives? If we are paying R500 pm for ADSL then after 5 years we have paid R30,000?!? When would we ever stop paying for our part of the ADSL connection?
 
Ok lets do the math for a second a am still abit of a noob with what is going on but bare with me telkom charge an additional R477 for adsl 512 now lets lower it to about R400 considering that alot of people use adsl 384 and 192 as well...ok telkom have about 100000 adsl costumers so technically they make 4 billion per month...do u really think that this does not cover there expenditures??? the dual line fees need to be cut more or abolished alltogether...
 
So the line rental is justified by the capital expenditure and maintenance of the dslam and backhaul hey Mr White. Well how can New Zealand have the entire package ie local loop, dslam, backhaul, and international bandwidth for half the price of the line rental in SA? And your excuse of everyone living in high rise flats does not hold true in NZ.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea, if all 100 000 of Telkoms ADSL customers turned around saying they were being overcharged, demanded a refund as well as the removeal of the line rental. I don't think much would come of it from Telkom, but 100 000 complaints is a hell of a lot and perhaps would help the case?

there you get for an order of a landline a 756/128 ADSL line for free.... Other prices for 756/128 are 4.95 Euro up to 7.95 Euro. For the top of the range offer 6 Mb/s / 512 Kb/s you pay 29.95 Euro, and everything is uncapped and unshaped.

Well the longer ayanda takes to convince us to accept his flawed views of this matter, the less bonus ayanda would get from Telkom for his PR ;-)

I heard something scary, even my Grandma asked me without any knowledge why it cost so much for her to phone the family. There must a serious flaw, when the Granny notice it.

Actually, that's R40m, not R4bn. I do think that's a bit objective to work on R400, though. I would most likely work on R350, as this will give them the benifit of the doubt. They also only have about 70,000 customers on ADSL, so that's also a slight reduction in the amount. This works out to R24.5m per month. Not a small amount.

I don't have a problem with them charging an additional line rental charge, but I do have a problem with it if it's more than R100-R150 per month. Also, this should be charged to the ISP, not the customer. This will even the playing ground and promote fair compitition between telkomsa/saix and the other ISP's.

Bottom line is... Telkom has no right to call for unfair play when they play unfairly themselves!
 
Please, you are falling in their trap. Do not forget the ISP accounts they are selling, which brings in an additional +-R150 for resellers and R240 for TelkomADSL users. Their must be at least 1 account for every ADSL users, but before last month we had to purchase additional accounts to have a higher cap. I am sure that many users in fact had two or three accounts.
Remember- They charge us 3 times

1) Telephone rental
2) ADSL rental
3) ISP account

plus for some people on packages with them an exorbitant amount for a USB modem.
