ICASA warns wireless Internet service providers

ICASA has warned wireless Internet service providers not to illegally use the 4 GHz band to offer services

The regulator said that the 4GHz band is used by the South African Air Force, and the warning was issued after Icasa received complaints about interference in this band.

Well it's not as if the SAAF is actually putting planes in the air, so whoever's using the 4GHz band isn't actually causing interference

While I do believe that there is a lot of interference from "illegal/malfunctioning devices", rather than handsets, it's not really that easy to put a number on just how many devices that is - we've got a lot of interference here, and we don't bother to report it.

It is only applicable to the airspace between Durban airport and Nkandla. The rest of the country can go ape.

You are probably right... I suspect the number is much bigger but for once it at least seems that ICASA is coming to the table and headway is made to remove illegal phones which is degrading the user experience of paying individuals.
